Shipyards
Did the New Republic need Imperial shipyards to build Imperial warships or could they build them at Mon Calamari, Sluis Van, Rendili shipyards?

I shouldn't think so. You could copy a design and make it anywhere, but at the Kuat (spelling?) Shipyards, thats the designs they're used to making so I would have thought that it would take time and money to change designs and come up with new ones and get new equipment to make them, so it could be a financial thing to keep the old Imperial designs and facilities, at other ship yards as well.
At Mon Calamari they only build the Mon Cal Cruisers, in Destiny's Way (I think) it says that they build them all slightly different and give them their own style, this kinda makes it sound like that they wouldn't appreciate the uniform of ISD, ect and hence wouldn't build them.

I would say probably yes. You could probably get the design for a star destroyer and use it elsewhere, but that doesn't necessarily mean you would be able to get all the components needed to build one. The companies that built the components that go into a star destroyer could have specific contracts with Kuat, or the other imperial shipyards and the other shipyards simply wouldn't have access to those parts. Granted, they could just try and build their own components if that was the case, but you could wind up with a part of inferior quality (see Iraqi ammunition for T-72s for further details).

Re: Shipyards
They would probably want to use Imperial shipyards to produce Imperial designs. They could shift production at other shipyards, but that would require a lot of retooling, and they would have to establish new supply chains. It would be a logistical headache, although it would certainly be possible for an industrial base capable of managing the construction of two Death Stars at secret locations.Dark Primus wrote:Did the New Republic need Imperial shipyards to build Imperial warships or could they build them at Mon Calamari, Sluis Van, Rendili shipyards?
It would still be much easier to just keep producing Calamari designs at Mon Calamar and produce Imperial designs at Kuat or other locations already set up for them.

But judging from the Republic's seeming lack of just about everything in the EU, you could argue that the New Republic couldn't mobilize that industrial base for actual war production as well as the Empire could. Now that I think about it, the New Republic was so decentralized that they probably wouldn't have been able to pull off the logistics needed as well. Or, it would have taken ages while the republic negotiates all sorts of deals with all the companies involved in such a transfer of operations. On further reflectoin I would say it would have been damn near impossible for the Republic to transfer construction of ISD's to different shipyards.
