Except child support payments aren't your garden-variety debts, because they're specifically excluded from being discharged by declaring bankruptcy. The same goes for alimony, debts attributable to personal injury or death caused by DUI, most student loans, most tax debts, and fines and penalties imposed for breaking the law. There are also certain grounds where a debt may not be discharged. Among the grounds for denying a discharge to a chapter 7 debtor are that the debtor failed to keep or produce adequate books or financial records; the debtor failed to explain satisfactorily any loss of assets; the debtor committed a bankruptcy crime such as perjury; the debtor failed to obey a lawful order of the bankruptcy court; or the debtor fraudulently transferred, concealed, or destroyed property that would have become property of the estate. And, of course, once you've declared bankruptcy you can't file for it again for 6 years. Plus, at least at the bank I work at, bankruptcy is the kiss of death for credit applications. We don't lend to people who have a bankruptcy on their record, even 10 years after the fact. Racking up those kind of credit card debts will also leave you with a credit score best summarized as "stick a fork in him, he's done." At that point you're stuck with Vinnie's Discount Leg-Breakers if you ever want to borrow money again.NapoleonGH wrote:Really DO you go to prison for it? Can you just declare bankruptcy and default on your debts? Yes
Will the government protect you when this is the case? Yes
May you loose your belongings when they are collateral? If you have them
This means that if you really lack anything of value that you own, there is little to fear from any debt in the modern world since there is no debtors prison. I dont say this is any different from normal debt, im saying that there really isnt much incentive against going into debt.
A typical tactic among some of america's lower middle class is to go heavily into credit card debt, then declare bankruptcy and have their debts forgiven officially by the government.
That's my point: I'm not by any means trying to claim that all feminists are like MacKinnon and Dworkin. I'm just saying that when people talk about "out of control feminists" that's the sort they're most likely to be talking about.
Then we agree. What I was trying to get at is that the general social view painted of the feminist movement in general is that they are like the fringers you mentioned, and that's just not true.

I don't think the people calling her that knew she was a rape victim at the time, in fairness to them.innerbrat wrote: There was a thread in this forum a few months ago in which a rape victim was called a feminazi for being upset by a giant phallic effacy constructed outside her window..
