I have three cats: A white one with black spots that sheds fur everywhere and begs for food, a female brown one with a lot of fur, and an orangish one that's very fat and stupid. They're all spayed or neutered, declawed, and cute.

My family cat died two years ago at age 19. :(

No cat right now, though I wish I had one. I can't, however, since my roommate is allergic. Damn!!!

Bah, I am allergic too my cat. Yet I derive a cetain pleasure from his dumb ass. Most people, IMHO, say they are allergic to cats for an excuse. But that is just my HO.

Ive noticed long hair cats irritate my allergies, but the short hairs dont seem too. Of course when you live with a cat, you seem to build up a resistance after hugging them so much.

Actualy, I have heard that those who grow up with pets, tend to develop a certain amunity to allergies.

Four, but it seems like three. All male.

Biff - Black and White Domestic Short Hair ,the oldest, approx 10 years. We got him from the Cat's Protection League. He only comes in at night, hence the "seems like three".

Max - Grey and White DSH. Pretty much the boss of the household as far as cats go. Can be a bit moody towards Jake and Cookie.

Jake - Silver tabby DSH. Cookie's brother. Nice and cute, but he has a pot-belly so big he's been mistaken for a pregnent female. Very greedy and a huge attention seeker.

Cookie - Beige, Maine Coon cross. Fat. All over fat, not like Jake style pot-belly fat. Bigger than the rest due to the Maine coon in him. Very fluffy and he leaves hair everywhere.

I had a Siamese named Thai when I was little. Whenever I cried, she would bite me, either because she hated the noise or it was her weird way of showing she haed to see me sad.

I've got one (or she's got me): Axis. She thinks she owns the apartment, and everything in it, including me. Weird-ass cat. She was my daughter's, but for some reason her mother got her the cat and then decided they weren't going to keep the cat... confusion.

Anyway, now I've got a tiny, black-and-white nag of a roommate.

Used to have one, then one day I became allergic, I never had allergic reactions to cats or anything before, so I had to get rid of it. Ever since then I've been allergic to dogs cats, and pretty much anything with fur.

Just my luck that I'd end up with a g/f that has a dog, a cat, three guinea pigs and a Rabbit. :banghead:

Some people are allergic to me on that basis. I'm a furry bastard; if I believed in such things, I might be tempted to believe I'm werewolfish. We need a fanged smiley to properly cap off a statement like that.

Our old Siamese cat "Blue Eyes"was put down this past March due to bowel cancer. She would have been 14 this August... :(

But just last week we picked up 2 new cats from the local Humane Society. They are both males and were raised together. They are both 8 months old and love to wrestle with eachother and play around like kittens still. Out of all the cats at the Humane Society we picked them because they were the most friendly and sociable, they also just had that
spark to them that screamed "We're really the ones you're looking for!"

Lol, or perhaps the horned smiley with fangs.

BTW, does anyone know of any breeds of dogs or cats with really short fur, since I really miss having pets and since really short fur might not set off my allergies. When I say short fur, I mean short fur and not furless. Furless dogs and cats just don't seem as cute and cuddly for some reason.

Also, does anyone know if Yellow Labradors are considered part of the short fur category?

*raises hand* Another one here too. And I have pretty good senses of hearing and smell, which adds to it.

As for the allergy question, there is a type of dog that is hypo-allergenic. It is a mid sized to large breed that is actually kind of shaggy. The name escapes me now but it does exist. Maybe if you do a search or something? I hope that helps a little. :?

I used to have a cat, but she died of cancer last year. We (my family and I) should get another one, since we are being overrun with water moccasins.

I have two. Ike, a brown/black tiger-stripped short-hair, and Tina, a black and white longhair. Ike begs for attention constantly, while Tina likes me and Ike but hates other cats.

I did a search on it, found a few sites.

Apparently, the allergic reaction to dogs isn't because of the fur, but is in fact because of "dander" which is apparantly the cause.
http://members.aol.com/AHTerrier/allergies.html wrote:"There is no dog breed that is truly non-allergenic (not allergy causing) because all dogs produce dander (shed skin cells), saliva, and urine that people can be allergic to. Allergy-producing proteins, allergens, in the dander or saliva can produce nasal congestion, sneezing, itchy and watery eyes, skin rashes, headaches, fatigue, and serious asthma attacks. The word hypo-allergenic (less allergy causing) is typically used with skin care products that tend to be less irritating to sensitive skin."
Oh well, I think my allergies are pretty strong, and that apparently means I have to go through all kinds of trouble.
1. Dogs are not allowed on my bed or even in my bedroom
2. I have HEPA room aircleaners in all the bedrooms and in the family room
3. The central heating system in my house has an electrostatic airfilter to help 4. clean the air distributed through the house
5. I use baby gates to keep the dogs downstairs -- away from the upstairs bedrooms
6. My house has bare, easy to clean floors in all the rooms where the dogs spent most of their time -- no wall-to-wall carpeting collecting dander
7. I bathe my dogs one to four times a month depending on need -- using a mild dog shampoo helps prevent overdrying of the skin
8. I wash all dog bedding, doggie shirts, and soft dog toys frequently
I cover the family room sofas with sheets to help prevent dog dander deposits on them -- the sheets are washed frequently, my dogs are allowed on these sofas 9.
I try vacuum a lot -- I have a vacuumcleaner with a HEPA filter
Oh well, if I have to do all that it doesn't really seem worth it. Guess I'll have to live without a dog or cat. :x

A grey tabby by the name of Tyler Durden. The first day I had him as a kitten, he launched a senseless attack on my ankle. The name kind of came to me then.

Owning cats is really a misnomer... cats own you.
