Religion Losing its grip in Canada?

Post by Icehawk »

http://www.canada.com/search/story.aspx ... 564709b8ff

A very interesting article. According to newly released census data. 16% roughly 4.8 million people in Canada now claim "no religious affiliation". Oh the times they are a changing. :)

Of course it obviously doesnt mean they are all athiest, but still, very intersting and refreshing to see a jump in secularism here.

And 20,000 Canadians said they were Jedis in the last census. We outnumber Satanists and Scientologists and Hare Krishnas.

The census also reflects the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world.

Are the people who put "Jedi" on their census forms going to build their own houses of worship, or will they stick to holding services in their parents' basements?

Australia needed 12,000 for it to qualify as a religion, but then it was rejected any way (and threats made to fine those who put it down) as there was no formal code or place of worship.

Pah. Next census I shall simply write:

I love how they invent arbitrary requirements for religions in order to disqualify the ones they don't want to admit. They don't want to acknowledge that there's no real difference between a "valid" religion and a "fake" one.

Since when does there have to be an organizational structure and designated place of worship for a religion to be valid? When Jesus supposedly wandered around with his nascent cult, he had neither.

Yes there is, the jedi code has been published.

And what do they think that building in AotC was... they never said it couldn't be CGI.

Well, Jedi already has several Sects. I mean, just with the Midichlorian issue...

On a more serious note, a Jedi need not a place of worship(ESB, Master Yoda). The code of conduct is well known, and therefore one can easily establish a group of Jedi.

That deserves an answer. I believe in a strong Quebec in a strong Canada... until our Evil Plan (tm) to control the World through the use of mapple sirup as a weapon of mass destruction can be implemented! :)

As for place of worship for the Jedi, what do you call the theaters when a new Star Wars movie comes out on the silver screen?

there is a basic code for the jedi anyway

Belief in the force as an energy field created by all living things.
It has a light (good) side and a dark (evil) side.

Beyond that you have the Jedi Code to abhere to as well.

I don't even remember that census. Maybe it was that thing I threw away unopened... Wait, that's illegal isn't it. I never said anything. No one heard anything.
