I still have issues with Firefly's excessive use of old west themes, but other then that, it's one of the best scifi's i've seen. Ranks among Farscape, Stargate, and Invisible Man (all except SG got killed before their time had come).

I never saw Firefly as good, in the beginning, cause i never saw it really, only some silly witchhunt scene. But then I downloaded Objects in Space and that episode just blew my mind.

Funny, but I didn't need to hear about "Scotty's poor lubrication habits".

21 things I hate about Star Trek off the top of my head:

1: Stupid hand-to-hand techniques. How many times have we seen the double-fisted punch? Too many I say.

2: Ability of Starfleet crew to read alien text and use alien technology. This even happens on ENT sometimes...in "Bounty," Archer was only too conveniently able to read Klingon to activate an escape hatch. (Strange that he cannot speak it.)

3: Transporters could be stopped by interference from a toaster oven. How many times have we seen transporters screw up?

4: Starfleet captains invariably allow an enemy to shoot at them gratuitously before returning fire. Even WORF allowed this to happen when fighting Lakota, though he at least had some reason to hesitate. Most of the time, it's just hand-wringing for no reason.

5: Captains always wait to order extra power to weapons and/or shields until those systems are DISABLED, as if you need to keep the holodecks juiced when a Warbird is shooting at you.

6: Bad-ass warrior types always suck. Klingons, Remans, even Jem'Hadar are often struggling to beat up puny humans in a fist-fight, yet they have this big reputation for being tough.

I mean, when Terry Farrell, a former model, can kick the shit out of Jem'Hadar, or when Kira beats up a Klingon...come ON! Let them be knocked out; have Sisko whip out the Kung Fu to save their asses, instead.

7: Stupid Klingons. Why are they so damn dumb? We've seen Klingons whipped several times because they were just being stupid, like when Amar started shooting inside gigantic-ass V'GER. ENT continues this grand tradition with "Duras's" ancestor and his ham-fisted tactics.

8: Broken holodecks. How many times have we seen one of these things break?

9: Inability to eject the warp core. This happened all the time on TNG and VGR.

10: Blind trust in "ambassadors." I say ANYONE, perhaps with the exception of Sarek or Spock, who claims to be an Ambassador should be shot on sight. They're ALWAYS bad guys.

11: Farting around with alien legal systems, like when Wesley smashed a window on that hedonist planet in TNG, or the dozen times someone on the crew was accused of murder. Tell them to go to hell, then shoot them out the airlock. They, too, are LYING or otherwise full of it.

12: Waking people up from cryogenic sleep. We have seen this in "Space Seed," "The 37's," "Dragon's Teeth," "The Neutral Zone," and the VGR episode in which Michael McKeon played a clown. Leave them frozen already!

13: Ferengi shows that feature Quark's mother. Nuff said.

14: Superbeings or especially uppity aliens putting humans to the test.

15: Vulcan talk of logic. Usually they ignore everything a human tells them, dismissively proclaiming, "That is not logical." Well, harhar. Tell us WHY, o' brilliant one! Usually it's implied that they're just ad homenizing; i.e., "humans have emotions and emotions suck, so their arguments are no good either."

16: Different species showing love in the same way. Almost ALL aliens apparently like to kiss...why?

17: Nervous junior officers. Barclay, Ensign Sonya Gomez...they were okay. At least Gomez was really pretty. But how many other gun-shy types have we seen? Do they not realize outer space can be rough?

18: Synthol. What's the point of drinking if you don't get ANY kind of buzz? Most people don't seem to love the taste of alcohol alone.

19: Bajoran...well, everything.

20: PADDs. These are the cell phones of the 24th century.

21: Troi's mother. She's actually a pretty good actress, and she HAS played the role effectively...her tenderness with Odo was nice at one point. But in TNG? AHHHHHH! You KNEW the episode would suck when she showed up, with very few exceptions (maybe "Half a Life"...she was convincing in that, once you got past all the irritating flirting with that old man).
Pain, or damage, don't end the world, or despair, or fuckin' beatin's. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, ya got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man ... and give some back.
