With or without You does it for me too.

Also Only Women Bleed by Alcie Cooper and Sweet Child O Mine - GNR. But that latter is for association reasons.

With or Without You is a twisted fuckin' song. It makes me smirk more than anything.

Hm....time to dredge the depths of my four thousand odd mp3's....

I suppose that there are a few that can get to me, depending on how I'm feeling before hand....

Apocalyptica - Unforgiven
Metallica - Low Man's Lyric
Cure - Burn
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under the Bridge

There's lots more...but that's just off the top of my head....

The Enclosure theme off Metal Gear Solid is a good theme for reflecting sadness too, I found a remix version with the Spanish Guitar in I think and the pipes which sounds just as good, but a little more uplifting.

Really? "Burn" tends to just get my blood pumping.

Mine would be:

Yoko Kanno- "Voices" (the instrumental version of it... something about that song makes me feel like curling up and dying.)
Tori Amos- "Me and a Gun"
Jane Siberry- "It Can't Rain All the Time"
Nine Inch Nails- "Hurt"
Golden Palominos- "Victim"
Steve MacDonald- "I Will Return"

*edit* certain versions of "Amazing Grace" get me really choked up too.

I'd have to say Hero by Enrique Iglesias, because it's a slower song, and the love theme doesn't help at all.

The opening theme from Band of Brothers is pretty moving. Blue, Space Lion and Call Me, Call Me from Cowboy Bebop, too. Barber's Adagio for Strings... oh, and Nessun Dorma. The Sarah Brightman version, of course. Then there's the Dario battle music from Chrono Cross. Evergreen from Castlevania III. Those are just off the top of my head, mind you.

Number one would have to be Cavatina from The Deer hunter. I watched the film on TV last night and I'd forgotten just how breathtaking tha track is.

Other songs that come to mind;

Tears in heaven - Eric Clapton
Missing you (love theme form Romeo+Juliet) - Des'ree
lucky - Radiohead
Black Eyed Dog - Nick Drake
Heart of Asia (Merry Christmas Mr lawrence)
Champagne supernove - Oasis

At any given point in time, I have sobbed like a baby because these songs were either that gorgeous, that applicable to my current situation, or a constant reminder of someone (and in some cases, a combination thereof). I'll categorize them for you.

"Hey Jupiter" by Tori Amos
"Against All Odds" by Phil Collins
"Adieu" by Yoko Kanno
"Baker Baker" by Tori Amos
"This Brilliant Dance" by Dashboard Confessional
"Wasted Time" by the Eagles
"My Immortal" by Evanescence
"Grey Sky Morning" by Vertical Horizon
"Love Will Come to You" by the Indigo Girls
"Ghost" by the Indigo Girls
"30 Days" by Jimmie's Chicken Shack
"Feels Like Home" as done by Chantal Kreviazuk
"I'm With You" by Avril Lavigne
"Comfortable" by John Mayer
"I'll Be" by Edwin McCain
"Low Man's Lyric" by Metallica
"Simple Kind of Life" by No Doubt
"Waste" by Phish
"I'd Die Without You" by P.M. Dawn
"If I Wrote You" by Dar Williams

Friendship-Love Songs:
"Call Me Call Me" by Yoko Kanno
"Crash and Burn" by Savage Garden
"Worlds Away" by Taxiride

Other:
"String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp Minor" by Ludwig van Beethoven
"Watchman, Tell Us of the Night" by Mark Camphouse
"Mama Said" by Metallica
"Requiem" by Wolfgang A. Mozart
"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd
"Scheherazade" by Rimsky-Korsakov (especially mvmt. III)
"The Council of Elrond" by Howard Shore
"Epiphany" by Staind
"Let Me Die Young" by Taxiride
"That Lonesome Road" by James Taylor
"Arabian Dance" by Tchaikovsky (from the ballet "The Nutcracker")
"Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" by Richard Wagner
"Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber

"Water Night" by Eric Whitacre
"Mark Rothko Song" by Dar Williams

I know there are more, but no one's probably reading them all anyway, so I think I'll just leave it at this.

The only songs that really affect me that way are Tears in Heaven, by Eric Clapton, and Cats in The Cradle, by Harry Chaplin.

Cranberries - "Dreaming my Dreams"
Rolling Stones - "Angie", "Wild Horses"
Sarah McLachlan - "I will not Forget You", "Home"
Jann Arden - "I would Die for You"
Tara Maclean - "Let Her Feel the Rain"
The Tea Party - "Drawing Down the Moon" (yes I've been raiding my BF's CD's)
Chantal Kreviazuk - "M"

There's more but I can't think of the names.

meatloaf - Two out of Three Aint' Bad
(.....I remember how she left me on a stormy night
She kissed me and got out of our bed
And though I pleaded and I begged her not to walk out that door
She packed her bags and turned right away

And she kept on telling me
She kept on telling me
She kept on telling me
I want you
I need you
But there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you
Now don't be sad
'Cause two out of three ain't bad
......)

that one was tough for a long time.....glad i got over her and found someone special.
