The assault on New Malakal was both a masterpiece of coordination and an exercise in poor planning. The assualt fulfilled its goals, but was annihilated soon afterwards. Fighters rose into the skies picking off survivors on the ground while Skaven war machines on the ground readied their counterattack.
Soon, the minor damage to the local gate was repaired, and reinforcements began pounring in from the fully intact base in South Africa.
Far above the surface, the skaven fleet finally hove into view of North Africa. Point defense lasers lanced at ground shields, destroying the light field units. Heavy batteries hit the big targets. Weapons designed to hurt capital ships met shields designed against fighter weapons with devestating effect.

The Asgard Admiral winced as he watched the Roman's finish off of the rest of their allies fighters off. It was a foolish and pointless gesture. Apparently the Roman's couldn't tell the difference between a counter-missle and ship killers. Point defense armaments continued seeking but found no targets.HemlockGrey wrote:The Asgard counterattack and point-defense only had time for a limited strike before it was thoroughly shredded by the Roman pulse-bombs.
A mystified Asgard fleet continued to advance on the Floater forces.

Um, considering the pulse-bombs would have intercepted the counter-swarm as soon as it was launched, I doubt this would happen.

The Asgard Admiral's overappreciation of his limited Point Defense systems showed. The Floater fighter swarm spread out, defended from the enemy projectiles by their shield generators and advanced ECM devices.
The Floater missiles split up into their approach warheads. The few hundred missiles became a few thousand almost instantly, and the decoys and ECM emitters increased the number fourfold. Though many were shot down by the Asgard Empire's excellent point defence, many more penetrated. Blasts erupted against bow and stern walls. Seconds later, the follow up barrage of kinetic shells from the Zarathrustran cluster mass driver turrets arrived on target, blasting through bow-walls and impacting the soft hulls beneath. Dozens of Asgard warships collapsed, but more than half the fleet continued on.

The Kokand fleet began harrying the NRE force with long range partical beam fire. Meanwhile across the fleet missile launchers had reserve weapons loaded before rotating to prepare to launch shielded anti ship and anti fighter missiles.

The flip of a switch annhilated the Kokand missile swarm; but the time of the KSE force was nearly up.As soon as the last FTL missile died the Kokand force dropped its interdictors and jumped to hyperspace, reverting to the flank of the shattered KSE force. Its interdictors snapped back up as the ships fired over 200,000 missiles into what remained of it. Thousands of particle beam cannon bolts followed. Little was left after the impacts. Trapped between two sets of guns it was quickly wiped out.
The Astralegios I unloaded half its missile payload into the Kokand fleet; innumerable missiles sweeping over the occupied fleet in an inexorable swarm that smashed through shields and hulls and crushed frigaes, cruisers, and even several Black Forests.
Meanwhile the Lupi fleet fired on the Skaven gate in South Africa; overwhelming it and quickly putting an end to its operation. The heavily shielded Roman batteries cut loose on the Skaven fleet, pounding it with waves of missiles and particle beams that punched molten holes in fighter formations and wore away the defensives of the larger ships.

The Kokand force dropped interdictors once again, this time jumping into two formations, one came out of hyperspace behind and another to the flank of the Floaters forces. The interdiction field of the lead ship was up at once, now casting its shadow into the floaters formation.
The Kokand fleet had caught them. There launchers fired another two hundred thousand missiles. The poorly protected Floater warships had been preoccupied and didn't stand a chance. The force was wiped out in two missile salvos. Very heavy particle beam cannons sliced there ships to pieces. Though now Kokand forces took losses with several cruisers destroyed by the weak return fire, the FTL missiles the floaters had reloaded where useless.

"New contacts...it's the Minmatar."
Minmatar transporters complete with an escort of Xeron and Sorca fighters decended to the surface.
"All Minmatar personel in combat zones are to be evacuated to safe areas immediately, broadcast our intentions, I don't intend to get shot down today."
"We're picking up a number of NAU survivors nearby. I'm not reading any NAU SAR craft in the area."
"Get all our people on board then go pick up the survivors."
"Are you sure they know we're friendly?"
"It's a chance we'll have to take."
Some time passed as the transport collected various personel from the area, most of them private citizens that were traveling in the area before hostilities broke out. Suddenly the transport landed near a particularly frightened group of NAU survivors. The door opened, but instead of a group of armed soldiers ready to take them captive like they were expecting, a single man holding a white piece of vaugely flag shaped cloth in one hand poked his head out the door.

This load of shit shit has gone too far. No fucking single ship can overwhelm a fleets defences and that ship shouldn't exist. Phogn said no capital units in less then a year retoractivly!HemlockGrey wrote:

The remaining Kokand warships activated there new X-4300 ubershielding systems and inertia less drives, ramming and destroying all remaining Roman and floater warships. They then turned there guns on earth, slagging Italy before wiping out the floater clusters.

Admiral Levantius ordered the fleet to pull back behind the range of the beams.
Another salvo was deployed, focused entirely on the interdicting ships; already damaged by the attrition of battle, several had been destroyed in the last volley. This barrage overwhelmed a number of others and a hundred surface batteries directing temporary fire at them caused a ripple of explosions that resulted in a weakening, a breaching, of the interdiction field.
Admiral levantius checked his watch.
"Admiral; the Hegemony fleet has dropped out of hyperspace."

The Kokand ships assessed the situation. They'd crushed all resistance in the system, there allies would deal with the remaining surface threats. That done the Kokand fleet split up to jump to the other systems of its enemy's and crush those as well.

The Kokander's movement had been suspected- Every sensor in the system detected the interdiction field going down. When the Kokanders arrived, they found their sensors awash in a blast of jamming. The First Fleet had launched all of it's decoy and ECM drones.
The Kokand volley cut through the fleet, but their hastily targetted barrage was largely fooled by Floater ECM. Most of the decoy drones were destroyed, along with four Strike Cruisers and an attack carrier. The Floater response first came in the form of X-ray lasers- medium range weapons which destroyed only four cruisers.
The STL Mass Driver rounds arrived a few seconds later, moving at .4 C. The kinetic blasts shook the Kokand warships, knocking down shields and blowing holes through hulls. Strike Cruisers, supported by thousands of fighters, whipped around, their AM stream weapons hitting exposed hull areas. Having left their ECM and decoy drones behind during their microjump, the Kokand vessels were easy targets. four Black Forests erupted in flame, their hulls desintegrating under the play of antimatter. Fifteen cruisers went with them , and two escort carriers.
Never the less, the Floater fleet was outnumbered. It was unlikely to survive for long against the massive Kokand force.
Back at Zarathrustra, the defending Task Forces were forming up to face the oncoming Asgard fleet. Two Dreadnoughts, twenty-five Strike Cruisers, four Attack Carriers, and over 10,000 lancers remained in place, as did the heavy defence guns mounted on the Military Clusters.

The Floater situation seemingly well in hand, the Skaven fleet diverted to take care of the Lupus fleet.
The remaining ships hurtled in a high-speed poweered orbit, gaining more altitude to gain some relief from the surface batteries. Sporadic fire from missile launchers and autocannon reached out at the Roman fleet. The gunners did not expect to cause much damage, and were only firing those weapons as a diversion. Meanwhile, most of the kinetic weapons withdrew behind gunports for protection. Capital ships moved ahead of their fighter screen, leaving it covered behind their bulk.
Meanwhile, the ships activated their carried warp gates, sending more reinforcements down to New Malakal to make up for the loss of South Africa.

Six Strike Cruisers, supported by one Dreadnought and two Attack Carriers sped to meet the Skaven threat near Earth.

Seeing no other alternative, the lighter Skaven ships dove for the atmosphere, hopinng that the floaters would not risk hitting allies on the ground. Thirteen bright streaks of fire appeared in the skies over Europe and Africa as the ships began their landing sequence.

The First Fleet, still above the Ecliptic, was locked in combat with the Kokander's massive battle fleet. Another Black Forest blew apart, but the Floater fleet had taken heavy casualties.

The Asgard fleet, suffering from the loss of the unrefitted Crusaders, pressed on. The other ships 'walls had held for the most part. They were aimed for the heart of the Floater cluster. It would soon be in range of missles and energy batteries. Then death would claim them soon.
"Sixty seconds to range, admiral."
The Floater's had diverted to chase down the Skaven fleet. They had the best shot possibe of wiping out the Cluster.

OOC: Raxmei, I made a mistake in my earlier posts, which has been fixed. The Floater fleet is not speeding to meet you, a it failed to destroy the Asgard force. Instead, only my force in Near Earth Orbit are responding- and those forces are pretty small. All my posts have been changed to reflect that.
