I missed the cube.... I couldn't remember the formula for a cube. Ugh. Oh well. Not bad for someone who has been out of school for WAY too long.

100%. Calculator would have been nice, had to break down and use a pencil and paper.

Almost overthought the CD player question, but I decided 8th graders aren't supposed to think that hard :)

I got a "Cannot find server" error, but I should certainly hope I'd do well, considering I have a tenth-grade final coming up in a few weeks...
Don't hate; appreciate!

There's no formula for a cube's surface area, is there? I though it was just the area of one face x 6.

Oh. Well that was rather intuitive for me, and I usually don't count intuitive stuff as formulas. :oops:

Perfect score, which isn't all that surprising since I do this kind of math almost every day. Like some others here I haven't touched math in a long time, the last math course I took was introductory calculus in first year university. The most involved math I've done lately is calculating all the stuff for my income tax returns, and like my BF I'd be hard pressed to remember anything like derivatives & such.

Hey, fuck you. I didn't even use pen and paper, I tried to do this all in my head, and decimals and percentages are bitches to keep right up there.

Well, if you only got the cube one wrong, then you did as well as me, who has been out of the 8th grade for about three years now. So yeah, you did pretty well--that, or I'm did horribly. *shrugs* Either works.

Whoo hooo 16/16. All head work. The coat problem was pretty hard, but after working in retail for over a year, you can approximate taxes pretty well. I wished my calculus final I took today was as easy.

I'm um.. IN 8th grade (math exam tomorrow in fact). I got 12/16, but damnit that stuff isn't like what I'm doing (Alg 1 Honors). Stupid Illinois for being so smart, and stupid Florida for being so dumb (/me imagines kicking both states right in their citizens' collective ass)

Duh, THe one good thing about being educated in a midwestern hellhole is that their public institutions don't suffer from rampant idiocy in the teachers and students, only the administrators.

I missed the triangle one because I didn't read it right. I though they were looking for the angle, not the value of x.

Jill plans to put ribbon around the rim of a pot and attach a bow onto the ribbon. The bow itself will take 18 inches of the ribbon. What is the least amount of ribbon needed for one pot if the pot is 8 inches in diameter?

The correct answer is 56 according to the test but,

doesn't the circumference= 3.14xradius^2?

so c=3.14x4^2

c=3.14x16

c=50.26.......

then you have to add on the 18 inches needed for the bow. So the correct answer would be approx. 68 inches, not 56.

No. That's the formula for area. Circumference is just pi*d, or pi*2r.

Looks like somebody switched the formula for area with the one for circumference on you. Don't feel bad I kid you. :D
