Anyone seen the anime Mahoromatic?
Made by Gainax, I've only seen 5 episodes so far but I have to say, it's very cute. Especially the 5th episode, the ghost story had me smiling in what is a rather crappy day.
The first season of Mahoromatic was wonderful. However, the second season took all the good parts of the first one that was good, and distorted it beyond all recognition.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

I found out about the series after downloading the opening sequence off of a newsgroup post -- I felt I had to at least give it a watch due to the missile jumping sequence in the opening, which was so over the top (a petite girl in a frilly maid's costume jumping from missile to missile in mid-flight while shooting some alien thing) that I cracked right there. The first season was fun, if not particularly deep.
I hated Motto Utsukushiimono (the second season). They introduced a new character (Minawa) who stole the entire spotlight yet was utterly uninteresting. The jokes became banal, the plot worse (the story recieved a major retcon to insert a new super-secret organization, the Kanrisha), and even the fanservice was uninteresting. More than half of the second season was spent on filler episodes that didn't advance what little story there was and seemingly were there simply to burn days off the clock and hasten the end. The final ending was a copout, as well, effectively undoing where the plot ended up going. It didn't seem like the same show as the first season at all -- more like a bad parody of it. Stay away from it if you value what you took from the first season, as it left at least me with a sour taste in my mouth.
