Rant: Administration SUCKS!!!!!

Post by Zaia »

Ok, just a short little ERG!!! to vent about my day. I was supposed to take some of my kids on a field trip today. Well, I didn't because my administration decided at the LAST FUCKING MOMENT that it was going to conflict with high school assessments (hello?! This trip has been in the works for over a month now!) and cancelled it THIS MORNING. Unbefuckinglievable.

So, I've started looking for another job. Don't know if I want to stay in teaching or not, so I'm looking at all sorts of things. There's only so many times I will let myself and my kids be fucked over.

That's ridiculous. They had more than a month to let you know, it was their responsibility to do something before this point.

Sorry to hear about this, Zaia. Hope the rest of your day is better...

i Don't know how it is where you are, but around here people pay a ridiculous ammount of money for private music instructors ... 25, 30, hell even 50 dollars an hour isn't uncommon...depending on skill level and breadth of experience (the more instuments the better)

Me too. I guess nothing will stop them when they feel that their job's on the line. Bunch of fucking asshats... They tried to say it was MY fault because I didn't check to make sure there were no conflicts. Umm, sorry, that's why I had to fill out forms OVER A MONTH AGO to get permission for this trip! Grrrrr.......

Col. Crackpot: I teach private music lessons too, and I charge $30/hour. That's just supplemental income.

Last minute changes in training schedules due to conflicts is certainly nothing exclusive only to the Education system. In the Army, company commanders must resource training a year out, forecasting for ammunition requirements, availablity of land for training, and a multitude of other factors. Training schedules are supposed to be locked in six weeks out, after a multitude of meetings, coordination and garnering of required resources. When all that is said and done, a field-grade officer says, "I think it would be a great idea if..." Then all that planning goes down the tubes, along with dealing with whatever resources had already been allocated -- not to mention the damage done to one's quarterly budget estimates.

Throw an unplanned deployment into the mix (Iraq war), and things go to Hell in a hurry...

I haven't technically quit yet (I have until July 1st, the beginning of the fiscal year, to find another and resign), and it isn't merely about this incident. This is the last in a series of actions like this by my admin. I've just had enough.

Damn babe, shitty way to start the day. I have to say that the days of leadership are over and the days of covering ones ass is now in full effect. Did they cancel it or can you bump it up a week and do it next week?

Either way, I feel your pain.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Zaia, although things seem to be really shitty int the BotM, this is nothing compared to what is going on, now. I know, though, that music teachers have one of the jobs where it is difficult to find a job. That's not because there's not people that could do it, but because scools are stupid enough to actually close the music programs. I'm really sorry that this had to happen, and I wish you all the luck in the world to find another, much better, job, doing what you love so much.

This does not encourage me to buckle down, get my grad school applications in, and work on my Education masters and teacher's certification...

If your planing to get a job in NJ or a nearby state, the propects isn't that good. Willing to relocate to a different part of the country or another country might be better, if for less buearcracy(sp) elsewhere.

Hey, if an Admin isn't fucking something up, what ARE they good for? :P

I suppose it all comes down to how much you truely love teaching: do you want to teach so much that you're willing to put up with the stupid stuff, or not? ANd what about the school and the students therein? How much loyalty do you feel to that, versus, say, going to another school entirely?

Not exactly my most sympathetic moment, but here's what it boils down to: how dedicated are you?

PS: It would probably help if I knew WHAT you teach...I'm not too much into the personal lives of the people on this board. Unlike so many others, I simply don't know. :?

I have never worked a job where things don't get gradually worse over Time. You can pretty much expect that in life or just curl up and die. That or you luck out big and get a great job or better still, win the lottery.

Zaia, think of the kids. Who'll teach them if you quit?

Of course, I'm not saying that you should stay even if you feel you can't work with the administration. If you really need to leave, then you'd best do it.

Just keep in mind that 30 dollars and hour on your own is like making 18-20 dollars and hour for an employer. When you work for yourself you have to pay ALL taxes and its a pain. Thats why contractors usually charge double the hourly rates.

Of course, I forget if Zaia is even in the US. Sorry, Zaia I dont remember.
