Star Trek: Nemesis DVD

Well I just got the DVD. I will be pouring through it for screen shots as well as relevent information from both the movie and the deleted scenes. Anyone who didn't want to go to the theater but did want to rent it, now is your chance.

Not bad considering the AOTC DVD costed me $30.

Anyways, I don't know if there are really any relevent screens that you can examine. Maybe how many phaser/disrupters and torpedoes hit the Scimitar and only caused it to lose 30% shields.

Or exactly how many shots the E-E's redshirts missed from five meters away.

Maybe an examination of the Federation fleet we never got to see on the other side of the nebula. I noticed at least one of the ships was named "Archer".

EDIT: BTW, are there any cool special features?

They have plenty of comentary, deleted scenes, and even a photo gallery (which I am planning on scouring so I can find all the new weapon systems on the Enterprise). Also, the DVD has enough clarity to list every ship from the battlegroup as well as their NCC numbers.

New weapon systems? I thought it was just the old phaser strip and fore/aft torpedo tubes.

You should see some of the drawings. One features specific new weapon systems while another just points to locations. I think the Sovereign might have ten torpedo launchers now as well as a second QT launcher.

Kirk had a "seat belt" of sorts in TMP. The armrest consoles rolled down to secure him into the seat. Plubius may have a quote from the novelization.

BTW, is Worf treated better or WORSE in the deleted scenes?

And don't even get me started on LotR DVD's...

I'd actually be most interested, once I get my copy, in seeing the UFP vehicle. I want to see if there's any merit to the belief that it actually has shielding, or if the people chasing after them can really be THAT bad at shooting things.

How much of the deleted footage did they restore? They cut a HUGE amount of material from the theatrical release, which ones did they decide to show us for the DVD?

Well none of the deleted scenes were added to the movie itself. You have to access them seperately. Looking at all the deleted scenes, they brought in maybe 15 minutes worth, and some of the scenes don't even have special effects (you see the green screen windows). The quality on all of them is rather pathetic.

That's too bad. I was kind of looking forward to them, and hoping they would be like the TPM re-additions to the film.

Do any of them have anything of substance happen, in them? Do they flesh out the characters or the plot (were they cut for time, or because they weren't advancing anything)?

That is what the scenes are all about. One is a scene with Picard meeting his new first officer (replacement for Data). Another is Data and Picard drinking whine and discussing things (haven't watched it really). Another is Picard showing up and sickbay and watching as the medical staff is being handed weapons and he talks with Beverly. Yet another is Deana in the turboshaft as she is attacked mentaly.

This was the best TNG film made. Though this film is mostly dark as the crew of the enterprise ends its long run it still is the best Star Trek film to date. The vilian is this story is unique with a surpeising twist to him. Nemesis is a good, old fashion science fiction film. There's no pandering to the audience. The theme of nature vs. nurture and mortality that crop up throughout the film have been done dozens of times before, but screenwriter John Logan (The Time Machine) does a great job of adding a fresh coat of paint.

The Federation faces a threat from the Romulan Empire and Picard inadvertantly contributes to that threat. With a stunning opening sequence set in the Romulan Senate and a touching conclusion set aboard the severely damaged Enterprise, Nemesis brings the characters and their adventures full circle.

Patrick Stewart is his usual commanding self but the film really belongs to Brent Spiner as Data. The characters from this series have faced death of close shipmates before (Tasha Yar at the end of season one of Next Gen), but the surprise death of such a central character to the series adds gravity to this fine film.

Be prepared for a film much darker in tone than previous Trek films. Director Stuart Baird adds small doses of levity to a film that deals with a number of strong action sequences and painful departures. Ultimately, Nemesis is about family, the challenge of losing a loved one and the difficulty of change. Oh, did I mention it's also a darn fine action film as well? Probably not but I personally found Nemesis to be one of the best Next Gen Trek films from a dramatic point of view. Yes, it breaks up a band of performers a bit prematurely and many of the characters do move on, but that's what makes drama fun. --This text refers to the DVD edition.

I think it was a good buy for $20. An enjoyable movie, although not
a remarkable amount of bonus stuff.
Director commentary was acceptable, I think they could have had
more deleted scenes.
Surprised to find no theatrical trailers.
Can anybody shed some light on the CD-ROM that came with it? I can't
get mine to work....
