Crap.
I think the hard drive on my PII450 box died. Started clicking and won't boot. I want to make sure its really dead before buying a new one. So, is it really dead? Also, does any major retailer sell hard drives <50$, or do I have to go to the shady local shop?

Anything worth the cost of a missile, which can be located on the battlefield, will be shot at with missiles. If the US military is involved, then things, which are not worth the cost if a missile will also be shot at with missiles. -Sea Skimmer

Does the drive even spin up, or does it just click? And does it make any other noises?Pu-239 wrote:I think the hard drive on my PII450 box died. Started clicking and won't boot. Not to hijack, but this happened to mine too. It spun with no noises, but it wasn't recognized by the bios or Windows or any other computers.
Then I killed another HD by installing Linux, but accidently putting it on a Windows partition that didn't have enough room for me to put it. Apperantly Linux overwrote some Win files, and then my computer didn't boot...

Um, then just kill the partition table and start over. Doesn't seem physically broken. In this case, the HDD is physically broken.Mitth'raw'nuruodo wrote:Not to hijack, but this happened to mine too. It spun with no noises, but it wasn't recognized by the bios or Windows or any other computers.
