Attn Aussies: Human Shields, Lies and Videotape
SBS's Dateline will be showing footage from the front line of Gaza on Wednesday the 28th (8:30pm EST) featuring on the work of Human Shields. Watch as they go under the fun tractor ride, or as they are shot for prizes for snipers as the hurd four year old children across the street. Watch as IDF APC open fire on TV crews as they film the latest incursions into Gaza 'for their own saftey'.
Being SBS, there will also be a strong possibility as we see how those 'fun loving' 'freedom fighters' HAMAS set up their own fun park with the feature ride; pull the string for a bang and win a prize!
I hope this doesn't break the no Israeli/Palestinian rule, but since we hardly ever get to see anything much more than a small snippet any time something goes wrong (unless of course it's another suicide bomber), I really do urge us all to watch this daring and indeed very dangerous documentary...

I'll be watching it. -Oh wait- I *might* be watching it. But it will definately get taped.Crown wrote: I really do urge us all to watch this daring and indeed very dangerous documentary...
It looks pretty full-on. On the add for it, you see this human shield screaming at an IDF soldier in his APC saying that he was shooting at children, he (assuming as his face isn't shown) denies it, and then he fires warning shots at her, while the APC shoots at the camera crew.
By the way, there is no way anyone could mistake the human shield for anything else, they all wear brigh orange 'construction worker vests' with Human Shields written on them in English and Arabic/Hebrew....

Well being Dateline, I know will we get some pretty sobering images here. I am just amazed how little we get from commercial TV channels on the issue.

Because if they weigh in on the issue people will start to not watch and the such.Crown wrote:Well being Dateline, I know will we get some pretty sobering images here. I am just amazed how little we get from commercial TV channels on the issue.
SBS has little to lose.

I wouldn't mind seeing this one myself, our PBS's "Frontline" does similar programming, and they rarely pull any punches.
They aren't on the media mainstream and aren't afraid to ask the hard questions.
Speaking of which, did anyone see "Insight" last night where they put the Education minister infront of a crowd of professors, student unionist, student union abolitionists and TAFE superioritists? The poor man (well, he's a fuckhead, but I still had to feel sorry for him) never had a chance. Gotta love a system where the politicians, not their spokesman or lawyer answers to the public
Actually SBS (Special Broadcast Service) also show a lot of documentaries from PBS. Mainly on Tuesday or Friday nights. Also we get the News Hour with Jim Lehr (spell) every weekday at five.Frank Hipper wrote:What does "SBS" stand for?

I am not sure if Ando's link shows it, but they also have news in foreign languages as well as world movies (closest thing you can get to porn on Australian TV when I was younger ). It has also been a recipient of more awards than anyother TV station in the world. I value my SBS, because the world truely is an amazing place.

Now pretty much all the A B frickin' C has is The Glass House. Though they have good doco's from time to time.weemadando wrote:Yes. In this time of nostalgia, we invited our correspondent for government reconciliation, Dexter Pinion, to review his time with the show.
DEXTER:
Yes, thank you Peter. Ah, how those words have stuck in my throat as I fought to keep the rising bile firmly in it's customary southerly position. "Yes, thank you Peter", as if it were somehow only through your munificence that I were allowed to reveal the truth. Regular viewers of this program will know that I have long been the only good thing on television. I have been the lone voice of sanity, the shining beacon of true liberal values, illuminating the self-serving socialist shit-sifting so-called satire, and revealing it for the winging waffle of the Whitlamite wankerism that it was. But it's over now Peter, you proletariat puppet. You precocious poxy pre-rapheliate poonce prancing parasitically point to point, pontificating piece of pumped up...
BB:
Are you alright Dexter?
DEXTER:
Shut up Peter! Let me finish my alliteration damn you, you pinko peacenikking pile of pungent poop! Ooh boy, that feels better. Anyway, as you will have seen from today's papers I have been elected to the ABC board and my first action was to cancel Backberner. That's right tree huggers, it was me! And I loved it! I'm even thinking of re-commissioning the show just so I can cancel it again.
Now I don't know if any of you have noticed, but there was a lot of crap on this show. A lot of lefty crap in particular. Happily it will be replaced next week by a new programme "AfterBurner", a thoughtful discussion program for right-thinking people chaired by me. In the first week, I, Richard Alston and special overseas guest G. Gordon Liddy will beat the crap out of some nuns using only our feet. And trust me Peter, it will rate! Oh I'm sorry, we at the ABC don't care about ratings do we? So I guess this show was cancelled because it was shit.
Goodbye Peter. Goodbye Louise. I think I speak on behalf the whole ABC board when I say don't let the door hit you on the arse on your way out.
Dexter Pinion, free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I'm free at last from the AB friggin' C!!
