Death grip, all you can do is kill someone. Mind tricks, you can convince them to do anything.

That might have been fear of lightsabre tricks rather than force tricks....Darth Servo wrote:Jabba: "Your mind powers will not work on me."Darth Yoshi wrote:Jabba and Watto both said that mind tricks don't work on their species. Or at least Watto said that. I don't know if that was stated in ROTJ.
Nothing said about his species.
Watto claimed force tricks didn't work on his species, but he didn't seem too resistant to Anakin's use of the force in AOTC.

It's not a death grip!!!! I've had this argument with my friends many times- it merely incapacitates!!!

Jabba called Bib Fortuna a "weak-minded fool." That says something, doesn't it? Ben Kenobi also told Luke, "The Force can have a strong influence on a weak mind." Maybe the Toydarians are immune to the Force because they are strong-minded?Darth Yoshi wrote:Jabba and Watto both said that mind tricks don't work on their species. Or at least Watto said that. The *Nerve* pinch is nothing compared to the force choke! If Spock and Vader tried to incapitate each other without weaponry, Vader would have Spock on the floor within seconds(ewwwww).

When did Ani use the Force on Watto in AOtC? If you are talking about when he wanted to know where Shmi was I think he just raised his voice to show that he meant bussines, no Force used, just ordinary indimidation, if even that. Or does the novelization say something else about this?Darth Servo wrote:Watto claimed force tricks didn't work on his species, but he didn't seem too resistant to Anakin's use of the force in AOTC.
There is a Vulcan Death "Grip?", but not the one from "The Enterprise Insident". It's called Tal'Shaya (hmm... perhaps the origin of the Romulan Tal Shiar?), and Sarek was supposed to have been capable of it in "Journey to Babel", had he not had his heart condition. It is not a maneuver that only Vulcans can perform, as the Orion in disguise as the Andorian Thelev was able to use it on the Tellarite Ambassador.
That gotten out of the way, that contest could go either way, depending mostly on the users. If it was Vader vs. a Vulcan, for example, Vader would definitely win, in no small part because breaking his neck (Tal'Shaya) through his armor would be no small feat. Now, say, a trained TNG S1 Ferengi vs. pretty much any Sith or Jedi, would be easy victory for the Ferengi; they are immune to all but one form of telepathy (and that took a giant, wormhole-inhabiting, alien consciousness to do it), and (back in TNG S1 anyway) were ferocious and didn't hesitate to use leap onto their enemies without warning. A Ferengi like this, trained in the method of Tal'Shaya, would be a formidable opponent indeed.

They don't seem uneffected by Betazed Empathy.
hmm, experiment:
Insert one naked Benegesserit witch into Ferengi Ship
There's no need tofight over me.
opps look the Ferengi are killing themselves...

I'm not sure whether that was sarcastic or not, but it's stated multiple times that betazoids, or nearly any other telepathic race, can't touch them. The Yosemite Bear wrote:They don't seem uneffected by Betazed Empathy.

It would take far more concentration to look into the future to see what the Ferengi would do than to just read any other opponent's mind. Whether the Ferengi could get through the armor or be a physical match is another question though. However, for pretty much any non-robotically enhanced, non-neck-protection-wearing Jedi or Sith...Ghost Rider wrote:I duobt a Ferengi is ever going to compensate for Vader's precog talents.

Ok, the Ferengi kidnapped Troi's mom to use her to outwit OTHER FERENGI!
He used restriants to keep her from using her powers on him.
He still was overcome by her skills at emotion manipulation.
