Sue movie theatres for showing commericals?
Seriously it's about time. Although I hate all the sueing that's being going on, I feel this is justified.
We're already being ripped off through popcorn and ticket prices. If we already paid for the ticket, then why should we be bombarded with 10 minutes of commericals before the movie starts?
I'm a lazy man that won't dress my links

If you don't like it then don't pay to go. It's quite simple. You're paying to view what they show.

Actually, no. They tried putting adds before movies in the mid to late 80s before and a consumer backlash slapped the industry in and the adds were removed. The industry is again trying the adds and they knew they were on shaky ground and risking consumer backlash. While they might call the lawsuits as unnecesary, it is giving a very important message to the industry that the general public can not stand commercials at the movies. People are paying to see the movie, not some fucking advertisement. The theaters already make plenty of money off their standard sales and they are showing the adds in an attempt to further inflate their profits at the expense of the customer since they don't bother lower ticket prices. If I have to pay 8 fucking dollars for a movie ticket, I damned well don't want any stupid advertisement tacked on.Stormbringer wrote:Another stupid fucking lawsuit. It's annoying as hell but it's part of the theater experience. If you don't want to go, don't.

The movie theatres pay to show the movies.. they get the money back from the paying customers in food sales. They show the trailers for other movies because it's an economic thing. Besides, in each movie reel sent, there is a set of trailers along with it that goes with the movie. This is because the movie reel is bought directly from wherever it is made. Thus, the people that MADE the movie insert these trailers in order to promote movies of generally the same genre and rating that they also made in order to create more income.

Orange Telecom have been the most annoying here, but they have gone back to funny ones now so it isn't as bad.

Hmmm.. Well, technically, a trailer is a commercial.. As for REAL commercials, well, we get enough of it on TV. I think it's STUPID, in all honesty..Admiral Valdemar wrote:Film trailers are good, it's the commercials we're talking about.verilon wrote:The movie theatres pay to show the movies.. they get the money back from the paying customers in food sales. Yes, commercials for products are annoying, thankfully in the UK a TV licence gives is at least several channels with no ads.verilon wrote:Hmmm.. Well, technically, a trailer is a commercial.. I have no problem if a boycott or general annoyance forces them out. But there's no grounds at all for a lawsuit. I dare you to name a reasonable legal justification for the suit. It's frivolous litigation at it's finest.Alyeska wrote:Actually, no. As far as I'm concerned the suit is a god damned waste of time and money and should be laughed out of court.

I don't know what it's like in France, but in Australia we've always had ads at the cinema, it's just an accepted part of moviegoing here. And I can play the alphabet game.Alyeska wrote:Actually, no. And Stormbringer is located at "The Black Omen". Might want to take a look at my profile before assuming where I live. I use themed profiles. Federation capitol is at Paris Earth and I have myself listed as a Federation Ambassador.Gandalf wrote:Sorry, your location thing said Paris.Alyeska wrote:Neither do I, never been there.Gandalf wrote:I don't know what it's like in France
Personaly I find it very irritating when people assume I live in France because of my listed location ignoring the fact that half the people on this board list BS locations for one reason or another.

Federation capitol is in Paris and Starfleet command is in Sanfrancisco. If you were to check SB you would find my Starfleet themed profile has me listed in California cause of it being in SF.Gandalf wrote:I thought the office of the Prez was in Paris, in ST:IV we see the Federation ambassador in San Fransisco.

The problem is unlike mine, which is from Chrono Trigger, your's in a real life location. It's easy to make the mistake, especially if you're not a trekkie.Alyeska wrote:Personaly I find it very irritating when people assume I live in France because of my listed location ignoring the fact that half the people on this board list BS locations for one reason or another.

I don't see what the big deal is. They are only shown at the beginning while people are still buying their popcorn, and arriving at the theater. Hell, if it weren’t for the commercials, I would have missed The Incredible Hulk trailer, when I went to see X2.
Now if they broke into the middle of the movie with a "And now a word from our sponsors." I could understand.
