The Tholians

Post by The Yosemite Bear »

Since the Tholians can create an interdiction field with their Webs
Since they can Gestalt (Two or more vessels can "Merge" to become one vessel with an exponential power increase). (Both canon from the Tholian Web)

How Many Tholian ships does it take to stop a Correllian Gunship?

8...00000000000000000000000000

I'd say it dosent matter because ship has to stay in one spot, which isn't likely considering the vette will leave once they start become a threat.

Would the Tholians even notice the Empire I mean to them Venus is the planet of choice.Which means they would concentreate on planets the Empire would ignore

Probably not

The reason I say the Tholians would fare better is because of the fact that one (Everyone ignores them), two they make great defensive structures, but otherwise if left alone your fine.

Then again from a Tholian Point of view, the Empire's BDZs would be an extensive terraforming operations in their favor.

Didn't the web take several minutes to create? I doubt it would be much use against the high acceleration of a gunship even if it can stop a hyperdrive.

The problem with the infamous Tholian web is that it takes too long to set up. The target ship has to remain more or less stationary for at least one minute for the web to be set up to the point where the target can no longer attempt to escape. Meanwhile, the ships setting up the web are flying in extremely predictable paths, would be fairly easy to target, and wouldn't be able to evade incoming weapons fire or defend themselves. The Tholian web would not be a substantial threat to a Corellian gunship, which is fast enough to escape the web during its formative stages, and almost certainly has enough firepower to prevent the ships attempting to set it up from surviving their efforts.

Could the Tholians set up a web to catch other ships, like a spider? True it wouldn't work on ships in hyperspace, but could something like this be used as a trap for the Corvette?

Well, the web is pretty frickin' visible while it's being set up. I don't think that fast, relatively small ships like corvettes would be particularly endangered by it. Most larger ships would be immune because their firepower would destroy the Tholian ships BEFORE they finished the web.

If we assume that the web simply cannot be broken, regardless of the mass or accelerative abilities of its quarry, it would be effective at trapping very large, unarmed or very lightly armed freighters and such, but its ability to trap a powerful military vessel is dubious at best.

In terms of the "merging" thing, I would remind everyone that assuming they can do that indefinitely is an extrapolation to infinity, and is really not a great basis for an argument.
