When all else fails... (comp/networking question)

...ask sd.net. Ever since I reformatted my good comp, the net adapter has been spazzing on me and I can't connect to the internet. I'm not very network-savvy so I haven't been able to figure it out. The cable is working fine and active and works on other comps in the network (e.g., the one I'm typing this from), but the spazzy net adapter doesn't like it. The dumb Windows troubleshooter dealie says to "Repair" the connection, I tried that and it used to say "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection", although as far as I could tell it was. In the properties window with all the components TCP/IP protocol was there and checked. On my latest try to fix0rz it the error changed to something else involving TCP/IP (don't remember exactly).

Help is very much appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my sister's laptop. Try running the network setup wizard.

I did. I chose "Broadband Connection that is Always On" and it said it should already be working. It wasn't. I fiddled around with other options in there and none of those helped.

Xp's usually quite good for auto detecting a connection....if all else fails...try uninstalling and reinstalling the problem part...it'll have to redetect the settings then...

Odd. Check your drivers - sometimes they can be flaky.

My suggestion if all else above fails:

Uninstall the NIC from winblowz.
Shutdown and remove the NIC.
Restart w/o NIC then shutdown again.
Reinstall the NIC as normal.

My next question is what kind of NIC is this?
