Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Post by Smiling Bandit »

(PS: Mods, I'm not sure whether I should post this here or in games)

Anyone taken a look at the new trailer on the Lucasarts webpage? Great stuff. I was wondering if anyone actually cared that it would conflict with the "canon" of the EU. Since I didn't really like most of the EU, and Bioware is great at telling epic-scale stories (Baldur's Gate II) I have a feeling this will turn out to be better than anything those hack canon writers could put out.

I just watched it. I didn't see anything conflict.

It was my understanding it conflicts with an already-existing story about the Tales of the Jedi era.

The game takes place after the Sith War with Exar Kun.

There's so much blank space to put the story of the game in that it shouldn't conflict with anything.

I thought it was the first Sith War, 5000 years before Yavin or something

I can't really imagine how it could conflict with anything of any significance. Star Wars takes place in a HUGE Galaxy, with far more adventure potential than anyone can comprehend. It also takes place over an epic time period, with thousands of years of completely empty story-potential. I see no reason why this should conflict with anything, and I don't see anything in the trailers to indicate that it will.

If it does, through some coincidence, then (perhaps unfortunately) the game will lose out to the established EU, being lower on the canon charts, but I see that as no reason to think less of the game (which looks great, BTW).

I have yet to see good evidence that the games are not on par with general EU materials.

Anyhow, its already been clarified it takes place about half a century after Kun's destruction.

Game stories right, IP?

Yeah, game stories I thought were considerd at least just official(Keyan and Stele Stories...also given that Keyan was shown in an NJO novel as a general would give this thought)

Unless they're determined to be apocryphal, the general gist of game storylines is always official as the rest of EU stories.

In general, I hope they go the NWN route with the third-person, eagle-eye view.

Unfortunately, the lack of multiplayer makes me hesitant to invest the money. I find single-player games monotonous because of the feeling of helplessness to do anything but be strung along.

KOTOR is gunna rock so much! I think it will be more like a cross between Morrowind and JK2.

If all it is is Baldur's Gate set in Star Wars, it'll be an instant classic.

They just better not fuck up the game with the CD Key "protection" (which Bioware has done with NWN on me)
