We'll be adding some more ranks.....
Looks like our ranking system will be revamped and added onto since we have so many posters with over 1500 posts. We've had other suggetions before, and I think those will be dug up soon, but are there any new suggestions?
The titles now have Jedi ranks. Are there any more Jedi ranks? We could also use Sith ones, if they're different. Something like Sith Apprentice(I think some have that title already though), Sith Knight, Sith Lord, Dark Lord of the Sith.
Could always just tack on Jedi in front of stuff like, Jedi Disciple, Jedi Guardian, Jedi Commander, Jedi High Council Member etc.

Well, there was always the Imperial Navy suggestion, I thought that sounded good. Allows for tons of ranks depeding on how specific you want to get (don't know Imp Navy equivalents, but US Army for example, sergeant, staff sergeant, first sergeant, etc vs just sergeat then lieutenant...).

Well we had the IMP equvilents...and neoolong did point out we could just use different Jedi names after Master and before Council member.
I say we go with though Imperial ranking system...seems to extend itslef well.
Wow...here for the a rank change(though I doubt Sith titles given that that seems more of a basis of service to the one Sith Lord here...Darth Wong )

This might help.

Well, this site has always had a strictly Imperial theme.
I think we should go through the Imperial ranks from the very bottom, then get to Jedi ranks, *then* get to custom ranks.

Why don't you just increase the number requirement?

Imperial commissioned officer ranks should be enough for now. By the way, about custom titles, if we go to a new scheme, what happens to users who met the old requirements but never requested a title before the new ones were in place?

I really don't think the ranking system should be changed cause those ranks strictly reflect experience only. By the time you have 1500, you generally have enough understanding of the board to be considered a full regular, hence Jedi Council Member.
We shouldn't tack on new ranks just cause we have many full regulars here. Besides, it could give someone with a high postcount like 5000 posts an incentive to start posting like mad to get the next rank or something.
If we are to add a new rank, we should add one for 3000, since by that time you're pretty much a part of the SDnet family, hence a veteran.
So once again, I say the ranking system should not be changed, and if it has to be changed, then add just one rank at 3000 posts.

I think you're 2754th post is really when you become part of the SD.Net family.Shinova wrote:If we are to add a new rank, we should add one for 3000, since by that time you're pretty much a part of the SDnet family, hence a veteran.
As for new titles, I don't really care; I've got my custom title so I'm happy.

I understand wanting to reward based on something other than postcount, but I'm not sure I like all the different ways we compare ourselves to the other members of the board. I'd sort of prefer it if we didn't have ranks and didn't keep track of the number of posts we all have.

Just my opinion.

I am somewhat against this. I think the current system is perfectly fine.

Would it be possible to have several different ranking systems (Imperial, Jedi, etc.), and members could choose which one their rank would be based upon?
Anyway, I don't have a problem with the current ranking system. Many of the people with large numbers of posts have custom titles anyway. I say just add another rank at 2500-5000 posts or something.

There are mods for phpBB2 which allow different ranking schemes for different usergroups... so in theory that could be a good idea...Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Bah. Posts aren't experience. I've been here since day one (or two) and I know virtually everything that's happened.
I agree with Zaia, if we start to fret about post counts and rankings then they seem more important and newbies will spam to get higher. I say don't encourage it.

In that case, why not tack on a time requirement along with the ammount of posts before a user gets a promotion.

Or combine posts and time together with that formula Alyeska came up with.Vertigo1 wrote:In that case, why not tack on a time requirement along with the ammount of posts before a user gets a promotion.
(Ask him about the formula used in the SB government SD. He'll probably know what you're talking about)

Well, for starters, only a couple of ranks really need to be bumped up in post-count requirement.StarshipTitanic wrote:Why don't you just increase the number requirement?
For one, you could bump up the requirement for Jedi Council Member up to 2000 posts. And then push the custom title requirements forward another thousand posts to 3000. Mind you, that would make it so you'd have a whole bunch of Jedi Masters running around the board. If you wanted to keep the current ranking system (which there is absolutely nothing wrong with), while making it suitably (but not excessively) difficult to work one's way up the ranks, you could do the following:
Newbie -- 0-100 posts. It seems to take more than a few people more than the customary fifty posts before they really get into the swing of things.
Youngling -- 101-250 posts.
Padawan Learner -- 251-500 posts.
Jedi Knight -- 501-1000 posts.
Jedi Master -- 1001-2000 posts.
Jedi Council Member -- 2001+ posts.
Good Custom Titles -- 3000+ meaningful posts. (Maybe 4000 posts to keep it in line with the doubling of postcounts, but this may encourage rampant spamming.)

Note: I hardly expect this system to be used, but I'm bored. Further modification. Minor changes as follows.
While Midshipmen and Ensigns traditionally have the same rank insigna (though in the Imperial Navy an Ensign has an additional code cylinder, IIRC) they are independant ranks IIRC and this update reflects it.
This system would separate custom titles (given by Mike only) from the rank.
I thought CGT Contacts would be more appropriate than Cloaked; Rebel Scum are for those who deign not to join us civilized folk
Code: Select all
1- 20 Cadet
21- 40 Midshipman
41- 75 Ensign
76- 100 Acting Sub-Lieutenant
101- 250 Sub-Lieutenant
251- 500 Lieutenant
501- 1000 Lt. Commander
1001- 1500 Commander
1501- 2500 Captain
2501- 3750 Line Captain
3751- 5000 Commodore
5001- 6000 Rear Admiral
6001- 7000 Vice Admiral
7001- 8000 Admiral
8001- 9000 Fleet Admiral
9001-10000 High Admiral
10000+ Grand Admiral
