Or combine posts and time together with that formula Alyeska came up with.

(Ask him about the formula used in the SB government SD. He'll probably know what you're talking about)
It was a point forumla that awarded a certain number of points per day on the board and combined that with the post counts for a total point base. This system gives much higher status to time on the board compared to total post count. An example would be giving 25 points for every day registered.

Someone is registered for 100 days, thats 250 points. They have 340 posts. Add the two together and you get your total ranking. 590. Just a note, I am giving arbitrary examples here. I would have to research the high posting members here to come up with the proper multiplier so as to make time more important than post count.

Anyway, I don't have a problem with the current ranking system. Many of the people with large numbers of posts have custom titles anyway. I say just add another rank at 2500-5000 posts or something.
Yes that would be nice.

Now if I may give my two cense. Might we have custom titles AND ranks? Some have earned Custom Titles while others stay with their ranks.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I don't see why you should increase the post counts to get ranks. The vast majority of people who have higher post counts (2000 and more) already have a Custom Title, so what's it matter?

Basically, you'll just make it ever harder for those of us who don't post as much to get anywhere (or who aren't in a Usergroup, since that seems to really increase postcounts by an obscene amount). And, like has been said before, it'll just make people spam even more to get there.

So keep it like it is. That's my vote.

PS: Does anyone else notice that whenever people advocate changing the ranks, those who are usually most in favor of increasing the required postcounts are also those who it's not even going to affect (either because they have a Custom Title or already have 5K+ posts)? Just my observation on this matter. :|

btw, if you're really concerned about people spamming to get higher post counts, then why not make them not visible in threads? (ie: wanna see your post count, click your profile link.)

Nice list, but someone should be called "Procurator of Justice".

I like Phongn's list, I'd say only that Mike Wong could easily be the Sith Lord while Kanos would be the Emperor (yes, I know it's the same, but different).... Having Mike as a mere Sith Apprentice seems wrong somehow.

So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Most of the prolific posters already have custom titles. As well, there are 'one-star' posters with counts >1500 and 'three-star' posters with counts <500. I don't have a problem with the current schemes to denote rank here, but I do like Alyeska's idea of a system that incorporates both time and postcounts, with the most weight given to time.

Besides, at the rate I post, I will most likely always be somewhere in the middle, a custom title forever out of my reach :)

Edit: spelling, and I can see changing the newbie line to 100 posts.

I'm for phongn's suggestion. Imperial ranks are a lot cooler the lame Jedis' ranks and this is the Stardestroyer.net.

I vote for both phongn's list and the time+count=rank system. Much better, imho.

Is a complicated new rank system really necessary? Hell, just add a new rank at 3000 posts. This is not that important a problem. It's not like any of us are getting paid for this, and if you're basing you self image on your status in the social hierarchy of a web board devoted to who would win a war between Star Trek and Star Wars, you've got more important things to worry about than your post count.

I don't have any problem with changing the names, but leaving the same number of ranks and the required postcounts is something I'd ask for. Like has been said before, it's not very easy to get over 1000 posts as is, so upping the postcounts would just make things even harder for those of us who aren't there.

This'll probably be quite unpopular, but I'll give it a shot.

Can you give less weight on what the people who have a custom rank think vs those who do not (or who don't have an over 5000 postcount)? Not to say anyone's opinion is less valid, but any new thing isn't going to affect them like it would the rest of us.

*shrug* Just a thought. *dons flameshield*
