Soryu, Ayanami, Akagi, Katsuragi, Aoba, Ibuki, and Hyuuga were all names of Japanese ships in WWII. In addition, "Langley" (Asuka's middle name) was an American ship, and "Rokubungi" (Gendo's maiden(?) name) is a sextant or possibly some other sort of navigational device.XaLEv wrote:
Alot of the names in NGE are naval. Ikari means anchor, Sohryu was an Imperial Japanese warship, etc.

But she withdrew support, so the NGE crew started to screw with her more...

According to the first Evangelion manga, Shinji was so named because it means "mind", Misato was the name of one of Anno's friends, and Ritsuko came from an anime that Anno liked.
I also like Osamu Tezuka's names. Rock, Duke Red, Skunk, Lamp, Mr. Mustachio (Kensuke Ban), Atlas, Rococo.
