The last one I bought was "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and I love it to itty bitty bits and pieces.
I don't know if that helps, but there it is.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

If you live in the western United States, Fry's Electronics is an excellent source for cheap DVDs, and they have a great selection. If you don't have a Fry's, check the DVD section at whatever your local electronics megastore is (but stay away from swanky places like Best Buy, etc.; you're more likely to get a better price at the Costco-esque factory-style places). Hollywood Video sells their rentals at considerably reduced prices (current sale is 3 for $33, the best sale, which cycles in and out, is 2 for $20). Blockbuster Video also sells previously viewed rentals, but they currently purchase fullframe DVDs, which your collection should be all but devoid of. Blockbuster has announced their intentions to phase in widescreen DVDs, as their customer base is becoming less and less ignorant, but how soon this will be at your particular local Blockbuster is hard to say.
When buying DVDs, look on the internet to make sure there isn't a special edition of the one you want either already out or on the way before you buy it. I've been caught frustrated a few times by having purchased the mundane version of some titles.
I'm a rabid DVD collector, with nearly 300 titles currently. I purchase at least 8 DVDs a month.
If you want a slim collection of just your favorites, then you need look no further than your brain to figure out what should be in your library. To get ideas for a more expansive collection, here are some tips: a) watch lots of movies. Go to the movie theater often and also rent at your local video store. b) get into www.imdb.com - their top 250 movies list is a good insight into what movies are generally loved by moviefans. c) figure out who your favorite directors and actors are, and see as many of their movies as you can. This will quickly expand your repertoire.
EDIT: Oh yeah, some suggestions.
Anything by The Coen Brothers
Anything by Kubrick
Anything by Kurosawa
Anything by Leone
Anything by Raimi
Anything by Scorcese
and, of course, The Emperor's New Groove

D'OH!!! Add to my list: "Anything by Fincher, except for Alien³"Zaia wrote:Fight Club
EDIT: On an unrelated note, I also suggest almost anything with Johnny Depp in it.
Also, This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, and The Princess Bride.
And anything by Todd Solondz, and anything by Wes Anderson.

Yes that was a good movie, though it doesn’t seem to be very widely known even with a considerable amount of advertising.kojikun wrote:Thirteen Days. Great story, about the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Actually I wouldn't advise getting the Alien Legacy box set. The Alien Quadrilgy will be coming out and I advise getting that.
I suggest you list the dvds you do have and what type of stuff you like. We can help you better that way.
Some stuff I would advise nearly everybody are the Simpsons seasons, 25 Season 1, Band of Brothers, the two disc disney platinum ones(Snow White, Beauty and the Beast), Terminator 1 and Terminator 2(Ultimate Edition for the extras and Extreme Edition for the picture quality and the other extras), Office Space(Though I hear that it will be released later as a two disc Five Star edition, so if you can wait).
If you want to read reviews, I suggest dvd.ign.com(there are different reviewers with different tastes so it might take a bit of time to get their individual styles), www.digitalbits.com, for info and reviews. And www.aznfilms.com(they tend to also have the lowest prices for Asian movies, their reviews are somewhat biased since they only carry the stuff they like so all their reviews tend to be high).

Well, there's a mini-trilogy within the series, of numbers 12-13-14, which is quite compelling....neoolong wrote:Well which other ones do you recommend?Zaia wrote:Werd up, that's the best one of the series!! They just go downhill from there...

No collection is complete without "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" and at least one Mel Brooks movie. If you like Norm MacDonald....Dirty Work is a pretty funny movie. Plus it's only $10 at Wal-Mart. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

If you like it tho, I suggest all TOm Clancy movies. Sometimes the kill the books (like in Clear and Present Danger the movie, a guy dies whos supposed to stay alive, but oh well). Oh, and try to find The Hunt for Red October with Harrison Ford, its better than the other one (I remember there being 2, mabye im just confused)

The Hunt for Red October was Alec Baldwin. The other Ryan movie with Ford was Patriot Games.Mitth'raw'nuruodo wrote:That ones good.kojikun wrote:Thirteen Days. Great story, about the Cuban Missile Crisis.
