Gunner: Sir?
Captain: Those ships are very nice looking arent they?
Gunner: I suppose......
Captain: (pointing) Try to disable that one would you? I want it so I can use it as my luxury holiday cruiser!

The ISD grabs the starship in a tractor beam. The ships saucer is ripped clean off.Captain_Cyran wrote:I would be that captain...As horribly outgunned the Feds are, they do have pretty ships.TurboPhaser wrote:Gunner: Sir, there appears to a fleet of 500 ships attacking us.

Tractor Beam operator: Oops. Sir, I gently pulled on the ship, and it snapped.
Captain: Oh well. Try another one.

Yeah, thatt'l work. In just about every threat to Earth there has ever been in Trek, the Enterprise was the "only ship in range"Solauren wrote:hehehe, gotta love this debate, so here goes something.
Did the Romulans warn Starfleet what was coming? If so, Starfleet has time to prepare a defense (i.e Everyship within range, get here now!!!!!)
Why would this Defiant-class ship be in range of Earth? You know some idiot in a Defiant class is going to try attacking the ISD before the rest of the fleet, and that will warn them about range.
When they get into range, EVERY ship would have to use the "Deflector Weapon" from Best of Both worlds, while firing as many torpedoes as they good, aiming for weapon emplacements,
No can do. That deflector weapon takes all the power the GCS has at its disposal. It wouldn't be able to fire any other weapon. And unless you can prove that deflector weapon works on all the other ships that AREN'T Galaxy-class, your scenario fizzles here.
and if the knobs at the top of the ISD are shield generators, at them.
Gotta get PAST the shields first.
Ok.They'd also have to come from the "top" of the ISD to avoid most of the broadside weapons, as well as coming from behind and hitting the engines, were there are few weapons.
Idiotic. You want them to use the uber-Deflector weapon, fire all other weapons, and tow asteroids with the tractor beams all at the same time? Come on, man. Also, tossing a few hundred 40 meter asteroids towed in a tractor beam would be a good idea, so the star destroyer spends a few seconds shotting them down.
By the time the subspace communication GETS to them, the Star Destroyer would already BE there. Here is how the battle would have to progress
1- They find out the ISD is coming via the Romulans.
Lord Poe, can I point something out?
That was a scenario to give them a FIGHTING chance.
Did you read the post that followed that up even?
I ran the numbers. Even using the Uber deflectors and the stats from DITL.ORG, they still lose.
Without the stupid "dramatic" elements that creep into Star Trek. Like the Enterprise is the only ship within range of earth, etc etc. I do like the "closest ship in range" scenario's they have done, but not the "only ship" ones.
Anyway...
Go read the follow up. They still lose.
Also, please note they ISD was using a Warp Drive. Not a hyperdrive. Just because they had a Warp drive doesn't mean they can do Warp 9.9999+ even with superior power generation.
For one, who says the Romulans built them a top of the line warp drive?
Who says that a warp drive the Romulans build for a ship that big could even do warp 5+
I was running it like that to give the UFP/Starfleet time to get the 500 ships together that were part of the scenario. The rocks were to give them time to get into firing range before the ISD vaped them all.
Don't over analyze what is supposed to be someone's "How I'd do it/Run it to make it fun/fair/give them the best chance."
Poke holes in my numbers. Feel encouraged. But don't be like "only the Enterprise/Galaxy Class can do it". That's starting to sound like a Trekie-Fan Boy's arguements for why Star Trek can beat Star Wars.
