On the topic: You guys seem to forget that it isn't till around season 5 of DS9 that starfleet figures out they can fire more than one weapon at a time AND they can also fire more than 3 shots per battle, I bet the guy at SF R&D who figured that out got a condo on Risa.
Well actually its more that the SFX people started saving lots of money by showing reduced or no shield effects. Evidently showing the glowing bubbles took a huge amount of manual work and cost far more then just adding on phaser beams and torpedoes. Thus you have the Dominion war fleet battles in which at most you see a brief glimpse of shielding in a close up of a hit.

Or that they built another ship called the USS Galaxy. Need I remind you how many real-life ships were named "USS Wasp"? Or for that matter, how many Federation ships were named "Enterprise?"

Only ten...

It had the exact same NCC number. The Enterprise is the only recorded ship in Trek history to reuse its NCC number.

Could you see the name on the ship?
Yep, and reg. number.
Class names are always called after the first ship, so I would be interested in seein the Galaxy even though it looks like all the other GCS's.
If memory serves me right, you can see it in Way of the warrior, part II, and it is an upgraded GCS.
Yes, its good that they didnt destroy any more GCS's on DS9. I wonder why they didnt?
Because its cheaper to reuse dead Miranda's over and over again? ;)
Thanks for that.

Hehe, yeah the poor old Miranda's got a bit of a beating during the war. Older design of course. Its upgrade options would have been limited dur to the fact that all the Mirandas in SF are fairly old, I dont think SF would be producing them in the late 24th century.

(fake voice) Oh, well lets go find some space anomaly today that'll rip it apart!

1. I don't think they were caught by surprise, before the Odyssey left DS9, the Captain knew perfectly well there would be a confrontation. He said something like

'Investigate the Jem' Hadar threat and retrieve Sisko etc'
True, Captain Keogh makes reference to the Dominion having "sharper teeth" than the Maquis when Kira is trying to make her case for the runabouts to escort the Odyssey on her mission.

Not a day(?) before a Jem'Hadar soldier beams on to DS9 and walks through a containment field like its not there, handing Kira a list of ships they have destroyed from the AQ.

I would say Keogh was counting on meeting resistance. He seemed much more military minded than previous captains we have seen, another reason I was expecting a better show from the Odyssey I guess.

Your right, when I first saw it on TV my jaw dropped just from the sheer audacity of the action. Mostly because we rarely see a trek ship with a burning, gaping hole in its hull.

Best example of a slagged Star Trek vessel for me are the Miranda's in SOA- Looked to me like Dominion torps packed a (relatively of course) far greater wallop than Federation torps.

But to get on topic- Maybe the production reason for not seeing more from the Odyessy was that CGI was not as big as it was then and for whatever reason they couldn't afford to do with the models the sort of fight they wanted?
