some think god will call up all the christians at some point in the future.

would this be a good thing, or bad thing? and would you want to see it happen?

Supposedly, this will occur right before the Great Tribulation and signal the start to the end of the world. If this happens, then it will sort of prove that there is a God and that CHristians are right. I think this will happen, I am a Christian (and a faithful, if not strange one) after all.

Yeah, it's kind of funny, but that would really be God showing people that he does exist, which would undermine the point of faith. Not that I think this will ever happen though...

The reason he shows himself is that it is THE END OF THE WORLD and he is basically punishing all of those who are still unbelivers at that point. He would pick up the people who put two and two together during the Tribulation and he'll also bring the Jews. At least that is what I believe.

Assuming it really does happen, it depends on whether or not people can be saved after it occurs.

If not, you're basically screwed.

If so, well, if a large chunk of the world's population vanishes in a streak of white light, now might be a good time to convert.

The rapture is a farly new idea I think. From what I've read in the Bible some people took one phrase out of the Bible "they will be caught up" or somesuch, and created an entire doctrine out of it.

no, according to JWs, 144 000 most pure people will be the ruling class in the messianic age when jesus comes back. Coincidentally, that 144000 happens to be them

However, there have probably been more than 144 000 JWs, and if you factor in all the good and pure people that have ever been....

and if it happens, ill be happy that all the christians have disappeared. Then i'll believe in god because he'll be showing some decency and giving unequivocable evidence for his existence, hopefully.

I think the Rapture is being used as a scare tactic nowadays. Ever notice how JWs almost always put the date of the Rapture in our lifetimes?

Anyway, If they say the only way to get into Heaven is to accept Christ, then does that mean you can blashpleme, sodomize, and curse your parents all you want, and say "Yeah, I like that Jesus fellow" at Judgement Day?

How can you say that your armageddon story is right and all the rest are wrong. We have the legend of Germanic / Norse Ragnarok, the Hindu destruction stories, there are Aztec distruction stories. What makes the Christian one special?

Personally, I think it is a cop out, not trying to solve the problems in the world and instead looking at a miracle where god will fix everything. A couple of months ago, the Descovery Channel revisited the burning of Rome during Nero's rule. The suggestion was the Christians really did do it, they wanted to start the armageddon becuas eit was suppose to start soon and they thought that by burning rome they could do that.

Also, the story of Revelations was suppose to happen with the seven king of the city of seven hills. The city of seven hills was Rome and it was clearly known at the time at it was ruled by the sixth king. It did not happen.

No, you simply could come to believe during the seven year Tribulation and God would , in theory (my own beliefs on the end of the world), forgive you and let you in. But the catch id that you have to be sincere and take it to heart. BTW, I don't hold being atheist against anyone here and I respect you for sticking by your path.
