You shitting me? I'm in my 4th reading. I think it's actually a lot more interesting, concise, and relevant than 1984. You're weird.Stormbringer wrote:AWFUL BOOK! Seriously, that bored me to tears. "Discourses on Livy", by Nicolo Machiavelli - Machiavelli's slightly lesser known work, which advocates an uncorrupted political culture and republican governance.

The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects
I'm not sure why people choose 'To Love is to Bury' as their wedding song...It's about a murder-suicide

When it becomes serious, you have to lie

If you're a civil war buff, I'd recommend the Killer Angels, By Michael Sharra, and Lee's Lieutenants, by Douglas Southall Freeman. Just so you're aware, Lee's Lieutenants is a three volume work, but it's well written and very informative.

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien I assume needs no introduction?
Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinline was the book that got me into reading. During summer I now read about one novel every two days, so that should tell you its power, at least to me. Its story is a bit complex for me to spell out 'cause I ain't to good with words here.
Global Brain by Howard Bloom talks about the way humans interact in groups. WARNING!! NON-FICTION

"Either God wants to abolish evil, and cannot; or he can, but does not want to. ... If he wants to, but cannot, he is impotent. If he can, but does not want to, he is wicked. ... If, as they say, God can abolish evil, and God really wants to do it, why is there evil in the world?" -Epicurus

I'd take a Merle books.
Probably "Malevil". It's about how can a small group of people reorganize society after a nuclear strike. Gives a damn good insight on human behaviour...
...and take "Tao te King" from Lao-Ce.
It's a short book. Only short poetries but you have to read all of them several times to really understand their true meaning.
Damn good book.
