TNG Episodes

Post by Crown »

Okay as most of you are aware I am a ST newbie in general and especially when it comes to TNG... So in an effort to improve myself, I would like to get to know TNG, sort of speak. I was wondering if you guys could point me to the 'must see' episodes.

Best of Both Worlds is good start(parts 1 & 2)...basically what many of us harken to the good ol Borg.

There are a quite few good *Q* episodes.

That's all I can remember of the top of my head.

"Yesterday's Enterprise" is considered by most to be a contender for the best TNG ep, and many people count it among the top 10 Star Trek episodes from any series.

That all depends on who your fav person in the show is. But the best
all around shows are mentioned above, as well as Chain of Command,
and Yesterdays Enterprise. Enjoy.

Yes, definately "Yesterdays Enterprise". If you every only get to see one ep of TNG, make sure its that one. However there are other good ones as well, practically all the episodes with "Q" in them are great as well as the shows two part finale titled "All Good Things"

I disagree. It's a very good episode, but I think "The Inner Light" is a far better choice. You don't need a grand space battle to tell a great story.

I agree with many of the above listed episodes plus I wanted to add "Lower Decks"(S7), "Q Who?"(S2), "Conundrum"(S5) and "Darmok"(S5).
Pretty much every episode in season five was a good one, so that might be something worth getting if you have the $$$.

A word of warning avoid the following episodes at all costs - "Masks", "Shades of Grey" and "The Child". theyare the worst of TNG Trek

I read in the other thread that you were asking about Sela. They introduce her in the epsiodes "Redemption Pt 1 & 2" and she returns in "Unification Pt 1 & 2" all of which are good episodes.

Okay so far I have seen these;

Yesterday's Enterprises - (sorry I called it Last year's in the other thread), absolutely brilliant. I loved the fact that when Whoopi (is it Guinan?) goes up to Picard and asks him where the families are, the look he gives her is priceless. Loved it, absolutely loved it.

Unification Pt1 & 2 - also brilliant. I really really really loved this episode, perhaps even more than the Yesterday's Enterprise. Spock was true to form, just one question, that wasn't Spock's mother was it? I mean Sarek got re-married or something right? Otherwise how old would she be anyway?

Face of the Enemy - suprisingly I loved this episode. I am not a fan of counsilor Troi, but I loved this one it was great (although her walking in a Tal'Shiar uniform looked sooooo funny, it was like something out of a Dynasty set).

The Neutral Zone - I can't believe that no-one recommended this one, it was great. A little slow, but great non-the-less.

The Best of Both Worlds - I liked it, but not as much as the others previously listed. I guess I have been de-borg-a-fied by Voyager *shuders*, where as Bimbo&Barny haven't managed to ruin the Romulans yet.

Q Who - it was very entertaining, although this is where Riker says 'don't raise shields, we don't want to appear threatening', which really had me banging my head against the wall, let me tell you.

True Q - Beautiful, just for the fact that Dr Crusher gets turned into a dog, I loved it!

Hide and Q - ehhh really didn't do it for me.

So far I must say that I AM REALLY PISSED OFF!. I am pissed off because I have missed out on this great Trek before being exposed to the trash that was Voyager. And it's not the same viewing them after the fact, it's like when someone tells you the ending to a really good movie. No matter how well the movie was made, no matter how engaging the story, the characters are. You know the ending, and you can never experience it the way it was ment to be. FUCK YOU B&B! You cunts.

The ones involving Lore and the Borg were ok. Also the ones where Data is Sherlock Holmes are really worth it.

I am a bit aprehensive about Data centric stuff, he sort of annoys me... Although that was in ST:FC, in the actual series he is actually very tolerable.

Well if I don't like them, I will know who to blame, won't I? Hmmm?

I'd also recomend "Relics" -- It has Scotty in it.

I also like the episode "Family" it is a great coda to the the two part "Best of Both Worlds".

I also think the first and last episodes would be good to see.
The last episode is "All Good Things..." and is very good. The two hour pilot, "Encounter at Farpoint", is so-so but it is the begining and bookends well with "All Good Things..."

I think I have a tape of one of those "best of TNG" shows and the top five included "Relics", "Inner Light", "Yesterday's Enterprise", "Best of Both Worlds I & II". That show was supposedly voted on by the fans.

The Defector - a very good one involving Romulans, plus it has G'Kar - uh, I mean Andreas Katsulas
The Inner Light - Stewart is excellent in this one!
Chain of Command - two parter ep, shows the best TNG-era Starfleet captain
The Wounded - this one introduces the Cardassians to the Trek universe

Personally, I've found Seasons 3 and 4 to be superior, although I've found Gambit (season 7) to be a rather good TNG episode despite the general suckage of season 7.

I am pissed off because I have missed out on this great Trek before being exposed to the trash that was Voyager.
I sometimes feel sorry because I was less than a year old when TNG started, I never got the chance to watch this great show when it was on TV. Well I do remember seeing a few episodes during 94 - 95 but I can not recall the plots. In the late nineties I watched TNG reruns from sometimes. When I was Ireland I also watched DS9. I was not a regular fan of either series and could not even tell differences between the klingons and the romulans. After I watched star wars in 2001 I had a debate with my sister about which is more powerful. I argued that star trek would win becuase they seemed to have longer ranges and sophisticated weopens due to technobabble. It was my cisit to stardestroyer.net that changed my mind. I decided to learn more about star trek.

Yes, a very good episode from season six.
I also recomend "Clues" from S4 and "Disaster" from S5.
I especially like "Disaster" because of 'Captian Picard Day'..... or at least I think it was in that episode.

I ahted the episode where they all changed into animals. The sight of Barkley with half his face converted into spider still gives me nightmares.

I thought that was pretty easily their best episode ever. I also liked "Q Who," "Best of Both Worlds," "Pegasus," "All Good Things...," "Tapestry," "Relics," "Chain of Command," and "The Wounded."

Akkk, heretic!

Seriously, if you have a friend who is seriously into Next Gen, they should have a copy of it on some form of storage media. You really should watch it.

Good, though a little boring and predictable.

I recommend Yesterdays Enterprise, Sins of The Father, Reunion, Redemption 1 &2, Unification, Face of The Enemy.

That's all I can think of.

Enjoy.
