I'm Not Ashamed That I Want This... [DVD Related]

Post by Spanky The Dolphin »

Okay first of all, if you've been paying attention, some of you might know that I'm a fairly big fan of shoujo (girls') manga/anime elements in regular anime and manga. This would include series like Escaflowne and to a lesser extent, the Love Hina manga.

Well, I'm also a fairly big fan of the shoujo genre itself. And this includes a series which is on a lot of mainstream Western anime fans' automatic hate lists...

Basically, I like Sailor Moon.

Now, I know a lot of you are probably wondering if I've gone insane or such, but I honestly enjoy it, and watched the SuperS season fairly regularly when it was on Cartoon Network.

The show's reputation is usually hampered by the atrocious qualities of the two bastardised dubbed versions by DiC (Season 1, R) and Optimum (S, SuperS), with poor casts and scripts, edits, and deletions.

That's why I'm looking very forward to this:

BWAHAHAHAHA!

My brother is a mad Moon fan (as is Phong among other things :P) and last time I was home I noticed episodes 100-199 on his PC.

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Only ever watched a few episodes, never really caught my attention though the animation and depth of story is good from what little I saw.

Tuxedo Mask and talking cats rock. :P

Yeah, but sometimes dark and moody can get a little passe, and that's when you need a healthy dose of pretty girls in cute outfits fighting monsters.

Though I greatly prefer the manga, I do agree that this is something that's long overdue. Now they just need to release the translated S manga here.

I just got volume 1 of Excel Saga but haven't watched it yet... sounds like it's going to be my kind of anime.

The animation for Sailor Moon was never that good, but I enjoyed the series, except for SuperS, where you might as well hook up an IV of pure sugar.

The Sailor Moon manga wasn't quite as cheery as the anime, though.

MKR, now that had pretty girls in cute outfits ... with plenty of darkness.

You're on a forum who's primary purpose is discussing Star Wars vs Star Trek. While Sailor Moon isn't my cup of tea, I don't think you'll get too many insults for liking the show.

Hold on.....is that what we're supposed to be doing here? Well...shit. I'm in the wrong place, then. I'll just be going now...

And I don't really like Sailor Moon, but I'm also not really into anime, so...*shrugs* Guess I really don't belong here! Oops. My mistake.

While sort of on this subject, why can't the enemy shoot them when they do their fancy dance special move preparation thing?

God forbid they ever face competent opponents with real firepower

I cannot stand the dub, but I do like the original Japanese version.

Heh. I have files for all 200 episodes, in RM format, on my computer. They are taking about 6 gigs of space. :D

One of my favorite aspects of the show is the names that were used. I like the name Poupelin.

There is the English-language version of the Infinite series of the manga from Tokyopop, but it could have been better. They called Ptilol "Petite Roll" for some reason.

No, it isn't. There is one part where Sailor Chi impales Sailor Kakyû with her staff.
