UFP Minister of Propaganda

Post by Enola Straight »

If we accept that the socio/political/economic system of the United Federation of Planets is a quasi/neo/pseudo-socialist regime and thus require a Minister of Propaganda to spoon-feed the masses the daily dose of government doctrine, who is he?

I very much doubt that is a propaganda minister beyond that which you seem in modern western governments (spin doctors etc), although the editor of the Federation news service probably has a lot of power.

The fact that there is a single Federation news service implies that there is indeed a propaganda ministry.

As I recall one of the TOS movies shows cameramen with the names for three different new services. However that’s TOS. Much as changed by the time of TNG.

By the time of DS9 Jake Sisko works for the "Federation News Service", now there may be other news services but I somewhat doubt it.

No, see, in the Federation, everyone's so trusting that they believe what the politicians tell them, so there's no need for a seperate Dept. of Lies.

Actually, that wouldnt work.

It would have to be genetic, probable the result of some nasty virus which was cooked up to minimze intelligence and increase a persons desire to follow.

And it looks to have been effective against most of the Startrek Galaxy too.

Hey, this makes me wonder something...

What if someone found out these proposed control methods were REAL, and found a way to counter them all at once and take over all the "air waves" to broadcast it over the Federation.

Now THAT would make for a good show set after Voyager

Well if there's no money, why bother making a media company?

I wonder how many time the Federation has to get its ass kicked before it realizes that Marxism doesn't worrk and that they have just been really, really lucky? God I miss kirk's Federation.

Probably when someone blows Earth to Kingdom Come, devestating the Federation's infrastructure so much that the whole thing fragments and they all go their own separate ways.
