Film Logos

Post by Admiral Valdemar »

Some films (e.g. The Matrix, Dreamcatcher, Lord of the Rings) have the company logos on before the film altered differently like the WB and Village Roadshow logo being in the green code of the Matrix or the New Line logo flashing gold briefly in LotR or the Paramount logo mountain being overflown in Event Horizon.

So which movies have your favourite logo effects? and describe them if you can.

I have to say either that Matrix one you mentioned. Or on 'The Lost World" game on the PS1, the Dreameworks logo that had the child fishing off the moon, you see the child fishing of the moon, then something pulls him and his rod down, then you hear a booming roar.

Indiana Jones always blends that Paramount mountain into the first scene nicely.

It's always the quiet ones.

I'd have to go with the Matrix logo as that is the only one I remember out of those you mentioned...~Jason
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I still have to say my all time favorite is the wonderful drums doing the 20th Century Fox logo then the Lucasfil logo followed by STAR WARS.

Not exactly different though is it, I was chiefly referring to unique logos. ;) But, I let you off. :)

Why thank you... and to be honest, I couldn't think of any original ones.

I guess it could be a different one given the Lucasarts logo doesn't really appear in many films and it interrupts the Fox fanfare.

There was, during the special edition premier of the SW trilogy on Sky satellite, a Sky Premier movie logo that had a background of space and had two TIEs fly-by and then approach the Death Star. Thought that was pretty neat (but then BSkyB and Fox are part of the same conglomerate).

Most of you probably know this already, but during BOTH X-Men films, watch the 20th Century Fox logo. As it fades, the "X" in the word FOX fades slower than the rest of the picture.

I like that one, plus the logo is in grey, IIRC.

The altered-color bit at the beginning of Gladiator sets the mood well.

"The Wire" is the best show in the history of television. Watch it today.

A recent one I just saw again was the remake of Ringu or The Ring, the Dreamworks logo flickers a bit like the WB/Village Roadshow logo does in Swordfish as if it were a corrupt VHS.

The Eiga Rinri Kitei Kanri Iinkai (Motion Picture Code of Ethics Committee) registration symbol at the start of Death & Rebirth and The End of Evangelion. For D&R, it flashes onto the screen with a gong-like tone. For EoE, it twirls up from the bottom, stops while the numbers roll like a slot machine, then twirls up out of the frame.

And I also like the entire parade of nine logos before the start of End of Eva.

Gah! Longest logo line ever! It's good once or twice, but I have to fast-forward it now, it's annoying seeing everyone advertise before that film. The Gainax logo is the best though... so... simple.

Another one is the Universal logo with Waterworld.

The logo for Joel Silver's production company (flashes at the end of the Matrix). It forms from mercury. Very cool.

Blade I and Blade II have the New Line logo in red instead of the usual blue.

One of the Batman ones, I think it may be Forever, where the WB logo morphs into the batsignal. IIRC.

Waterworld had the Universal logo being flooded, a lot of Paramount/Columbia/etc films have flybys of the logo. Pixar, of course, has their CG Disney logo rather than the traditional blue/white flat one.

I liked the few remakes/sci fi taking place in the past where they used the "Old" logo. THey also did it in Rocky Horror, and Mulon Rouge..
