If you controlled the borg what would you do differently?

Assuming you keep there mission objectives (of assimilating the galaxy and achieving "perfection")

I would sent Cubes throughout the galaxy to learn more about other species. They would not try to fight entire species but would assimilate lone starships. Once a clear picture of the Galaxy devolops I would launch my assault.

I will sent armadas of 1000 cubes each into each quadrant. They would be supported by smaller speciality vessels like Diamonds, Interceptors and transwarp prototypes. First individual cubes would be used to assimilate weaker races. Since a single cube can defeat an entire federation fleet, considered to be advanced by galactic standards weaker races should not be a problem.

Whenever possible I would assimilate ships than destroy them. Stations and shipyards would also be assimilated giving me intel, alien technology and ability to build alien vessels. I would also assimilate planets whenever possible. This would give me a large armada of assimilated vessels sort of like Ur-Quan battle thrals that could be used without any regard for their safety.

Delta quadrant would be the first to fall before my collective. Most species there are primitive and would be easy prey to my borg armada. Some like the Voth may put up a good fight but eventualy will be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers the borg collective can throw at them. My cubes would not take on powerful races singly but attack smaller fleets and whenever possible adapt to their weopens and assimilate their technology. Once my collective has adapted to the enemy weopens I would launch massive fleet assaults on the enemy home star sytems. Once the enemy falls the Cubes would leave that region of space leaving assimilated starships to mop up any remaining enemies and and assimilate lightly defended ships, stations and worlds.

The same strategy would apply to the alpha and beta quadrants with a slight variation. I would use the superior transwarp drive of borg cubes to penetrate deep into both quadrants assimilating any ships, stations and worlds that may come in the way. The enemey forces would be given time to panic and assemble their fleets to protect their homeworld. Once there is a fairly large number of ships in the enemy home systems I would launch my assault. Multiple armadas would launch simeltanous strikes on Earth, Quonos, Romulus, Cardassia and Ferenginar. This time my cubes would annihalate entire fleets rather than assimilate them. I would broadcast a supspace message througout the galaxy that either everyone succumbs to assimilation or face certain death.

This would severly demoralise the enemy. Of course they would never accept assimilation but the fact that borg wants nothing more than the total assimilation of their species and would not stop untill that happens would strike terror into their hearts. The federation would valiantly fight on while arguing the use of superweopens, the klingon warriors too will fight and the romulan talshier would unleash some superweopens. That would cause some losses among my fleets but the collectives superior numbers would prevail.

Finaly with the alpha, beta and the delta quadrant assimilated I would take on the dominion in the delta quadrant. It would make for an interesting conflict. While the dominion ships have nowhere near the strenghth of a borg cube the dominion has a massive armada and an entire galactic quadrant to back their war efforts. I would first collapse the bajor wormhole to prevent dominion counter attacks. Then my cubes would transwarp to the delta quadrant. I would make full use assimilated weopens in the campaign against the dominion. Chronatron torpedoes, temporal disruptors, genesis device, subspace weopens they would all be used. Cubes would be ordered to assimilate rather than destroy whenever possible so I may use the Dominions own forces against them.

After a few years of war the entire galaxy would fall before me and I would be the leader of the new evilcat collective.

I'd send about 50 cubes through that wormhole that opens up on top of Earth that it apparently has never occurred to the Borg to use in their attempts to assimilate the Federation. :x bloody Voyager.

That's pretty much it. No more sending just 1 cube - I'd send 100 at the
minimum for a society like the Federation or any other major power...

Borg Queen: Launch a new attack.

Collective: Acknowleged, dispatching 1 Borg Cube to sector 001.........

First things first, no more cubes, buidl me spheres. Next, we have lots of weapons, LETS START USING THEM!! No more of this shoot one shot at a time shit. Send a fleet of Spheres towards Earth, not a single damn Cube which does nothing. Get rid of the collective, they think FAR too slow and to simple minded. Give my drones some actual thought, not enough to rebel, but enough to make them THINK and ACT faster. I destroy the Voyager borg and replace them with the TRUE borg of TNG, because lets face it, had it been Voyager vs the TNG borg they would have had their ass kicked 7 ways to sunday.

Cubes can stay but literally use overwhelming force.

I mean this whole 1 anything crap is just asinine...if your firepower is still more(marginally or otherwise) destroy your opponents.

Plus advance KE level shielding...and improve drone's combat abilities(no more lumbering)

I'd initiate a major makeover to the basic design of my Borg Drones, fitting them with body armor equivalent to modern Class IIIA, arm-mounted phaser guns, infrared frequency head lasers, and improved combat programming -- the Prime Borg Directive shall be ?If in doubt, shoot first and assimilate later.", rather than "Assimilate, assimilate, assimlate."

Post guards around vital areas. See someone as a threat BEFORE they start mowing down you units. Make sure drones have at least average reflexes (no more zombie drones). Raise shields in combat BEFORE you get hit.

In short, put intelligence into the borg.

I make them fire on sight at any nonassaimlated ship. I would also give each Borg droe a bit more independant thought to enable them to adapt to a situation without having to die first.

I would redesign the average drone and actually divide them up into two categories: assault and assimilation. When a ship needs assimilating, I first beam over the assault drones. They will have armor, better shielding, more weapons, etc... and their mission is to take control of the ship as fast as possible. Once the assault drones finish their jobs, then the assimilation drones beam over to start assimilating the ship and any surviving crew members.

My second act would be massive refits for the existing fleet. The current fleet will be upgraded with more weapons. Its one thing to swat one starship at a time when your being swarmed. Its another to destroy four or five at a time. Any ships assimilated will be pressed into service immediately, especially any kind of combat oriented design.

Also since Im the one in charge, I would look into designing new weapons. Given my dedication too it, I would start creating weapons based on the game StarFleet Battles. I would especially work on Expanding Sphere Generators (why shoot them when we can run them through) and Maulers (lets see them get close to a huge wave of burning plasma death)

I would try to grow and raise my own Drones, indoctrinate them from birth about how wonderful the collective is, then use them as indipendent local commanders for the cubes. That should increase the response time (when the Queen was personally overseeing affairs in Unimatrix Zero, the intruders were stopped pretty quickly).

Develop covert drones.

More accurately, drones with hidden cybernetics, cloaked from tricorder scans and transporter analysis.

These people would be assimilated, and unaware of their own assimilation into the Collective.

Whenever these units are alone with someone, their cybernetic side will activate, and they will assimilate that person, in turn becoming a covert drone themselves.

This way, whole ships can be taken over without a single warning. They will transmit intelligence while being unaware of their actions; the perfect spies.

When enough drones are converted on a majority of ships, Starbases and Starfleet's command structure, the Collective will send out an activation signal that will trigger an en masse transformation into full drones, taking everyone by surprise ...

Hmmmm.. me in charge of the Borg

My friends and i had a discussion like that once.

First: Kill the Borg queen. She's incompetent.
Second: Recall ALL Borg forces back within Borg space
Third: Refit/update all Borg cubes, Spheres, etc. Instead of general purpose vessels, it's now a warfleet. Instead of living on cubes, drone's live on planets. Borg cubes will now have the same crew, of redesigned combat drones. Captured aliens will be put into stasis. Only a few assimiation chambers will be on board ship in case of encountering a ship, etc. In other words, the cubes are now meant to kick ass.

Fourth: Drone classifications:
Workers (no change)
Soliders (Faster reflex's, armor able to stop bullets etc, shields, rapid fire phaser guns, automatic forcefields that don't work on frequency)
Usually ex-military personal, and heavier humanoid animals (i.e Apes, Klingons, and whatever the Gorn equal to a Gorilla is)

Covert Drones: I like the previous post idea, so I'll use it. But I'm thinking more 'Terminator' style ones. First target; Medical personel, followed by Engineering, followed by security, then command, then everyone else
Recon Drones: Soliders with personal cloaking devices. If I don't have any, time to pay the Romulans a visit in force.

Battle Tactic Changes
Minimum Borg assault force
modern Earth - pre Federation era: 2 Cubes
Early UFP - TOS times: 5 cubes
TOS - TNG times: 10 Cubes
TNG times: 20 cubes

Any time an assault it replied, I send 10 times the number of cubes.
if I am losing a war, I use Star-Trek equal to WMD, like Trillithium warheads, to deal with the enemy. I can salvage scrap later.
I also would calculated the minimum, assuming I did perfect and so did the alien ship, to defeat and disable one of there big ships (i.e if it takes 3000 to do it...) and send 3 times that man Cubes (I'd send 9000 cubes)

I wouldn't assimilate people immediately. I'd pull information from them, after all, that's what torture is for.....

How I'd deal with the UFP/Starfleet
No Cloaking Shields
Massive assault, 1000+ Cubes (first wave, wave of 5000 standing by, if I don't have this many, I build them first. And if I can some how turn an entire Class-M planet into a giant, Transwarp capable ship, do it) and drop them right onto Earth's door step. I'd launch an all out attack of nanoprobes designed to assimilate, including billions of probes into the earth's water supply and atmosphere.

(I'm actually of the school of though the 'hub exit right next to earth', was a recent addition to the network, and that the Borg were planning an assault, or the collapsing hub changed it's direction or something. Oh Well, as someone said, for that; Stupid Voyager)

I have Cloaking Shields/assimialted a Romulan ship to gain them
I'd send a Borg cube to every planet in Federation territory that was a member or ally, or colony, and drop/launch billions of nanoprobes into the planets ecosystem, and turn the planet into a nwe borg World

And, I'd assimilate animals. I'd like you to meet my new assault drone type: It's a Tiger with armor, shields, transporters, a cloak, wrist/paw- mounted phaser pulse rifiles, sensors, and its claws have been replaced with assimilation tubes and energy weapons. The shoulders also spot rocket launchers and a sonic pulse generator to deal with groups of resistors. Jet pack sold seperately

And yes, that was an elephant. I replaced the ivory tusks with mini-Qauntum Torpedoes for dealing with mechs

Then I'd sit back, and wait for the new drones to come online....

Actually, I consider my mission to be "consuming" anything of value to the Collective, the stated purpose of the Borg in "Q Who".

That being said, I wouldn't worry about stray starships that came from tens of thousands of light years when I had tasty targets close to home. I would methodically scout systems and civilizations in my immediate vicinity (the Delta Quadrant), and conquer any that looked interesting. Even those without unique technology might well have resources and infrastructure that would be valuable. Mine would be an empire that steadily expanded from its point of origin, creeping outward like a plague on the galaxy.

If I did discover a distant civilization with technology or genes so impressive that I couldn't pass them up, I would attack with overwhelming force. If my first assault fails, my second better be at least ten times larger or it won't be launched at all.

I won't have any silly "queen" figure in my Collective. I won't restrict my research capabilities to assimilation alone. My soldiers will carry and use ranged weapons. My ships will use space efficiently. My crews will treat any alien spotted on one of my vessels as an imminent threat and act accordingly.

Well, as someone said, first off, get the combat drones up to speed with combat fighting - if someone beams aboard, then they aint there to sell insurance (and if they are, then they deserve to be shot about a bit) and should be assimilated ASAP - possibily by airborne nanoprobe virus sort of things similar to the atmospheric nanoprobe bomb seen in one episode or another of voyager)

Bring back the hull regeneration of Q-who, maybe develop it so it works in combat situations - ie, have a posse of drones always assigned to making it work

Keep the green glowy bits of Voyager borg, I quite liked them, and the voyager look was a lot more interesting than the palefaced borg of TNG. Get rid of the queen, nuts to this unimatrix zero lark, if the ships are decentralised, then decentralise the command - or, if you must put it somewhere - for goodness sake, put it somewhere safe and protected by a fleet of ships all scanning for ships on all frequencies and constantly adapting. Improve the shield grid, possibily to something more brute force stopping-esque like SW and strengthen the hull to remove the issue of those pesky adaptating weapons and transphasic torpedoes.

As a general strategy - develop that atmospheric bomb thing, why waste time scooping holes in planets when you have that? And if the population wises up and puts on space suits, then start making planetary golf balls.

Ships - assimilate and use all ships and technologies - if a tech is better than a borg one, use it - but try not to make it obvious that they've been assimilated (ie, no glowy bits as seen in Armada), so they actually have some strategic usage.

First order of business, the Delta Quadrant -expand and assimilate, stay the hell away from 8472 until much, much later. Keep a low profile everywhere else, go nowhere until the Delta Quadrant is secure and churning out cubes and spheres at a rate of knots. Then, launch an assault upon the Dominion, if possible - take down the Founder Homeworld (possibily assimilating) and all White production facilities first, simply a case of overwhelming by sheer numbers and firepower, sod the tactics. Establish bases of operation etc.

Really its just a case of working your way round in order of importance and firepower - ie Dominion 'missing fed shields at beginning' combined with Borg cutting beams = holy starship metal batman!

Then, when we have the Galaxy nice and Borgified, then start mucking around with the Timeline and hunt down those Krenim (there must be some who still have the knowledge of the temporal weapons) and Iconian relics still around.

Then, off to Fluidic space whistling a merry tune...

Why bother with Fluidic Space?

Assimilate the Voth and you have Transwarp drive. Depending on what level of Transwarp they have (10 - 19 is just good in galaxy), you might be able to launch assualts on other Galaxies.

I'd stay out of fluidic space until I had energy weapons approaching there level of power, or higher.

I'd also try to find a way to assimliate stars (yes, I'm serious), or rather convert one form of matter (i.s stellar hydrogen) into other elements, combine that with a transporter and start REAL mass production on automated Borg cubes

Also, in addition to assimilation, I'd also be cloning drones left, right, center, up, down and every which way.

Don't forget animal shock Drone troopers
