I thought that Megiddo was OK as long you viewed it as shlock. According to reviews, it takes itself so seriously that it ends up so silly that it's entertaining.Robert Treder wrote: People also like the Megiddo Code shit, but not as much.

I mean in general. He wasn't taking this stuff (or Lehay) too seriously and just seemed glad to be selling books. I should say he seemed somewhat amused by the fact that they were selling so many books.Crayz9000 wrote: Do you mean as a fundamentalist or as a writer?
I haven't read any of his stuff so I can't comment on his writing. The little bit he talked in the interview I did not get the impression that he was a fundy.

The made for cable Omen IV was awful but what I remember about the others, they were okay.
I also liked that movie with Johnny Depp a few years ago where he's tracking down rare books for Satanist Frank Languella. The Ninth Gate is the name I think.
Along time ago I remember seeing a movie called Holocaust 2000 on TV with Kirk Douglas. His son ended up being the Anti-Christ and the Biblical "beast" actually matched the discription of some big nuclear power plant they were building in Israel. Since I've never heard much about this movie again I'm assuming that it sucked but that I was too young to really notice.

Good choice I saw the movie it was horrible, The antichrist was pathetic IMO why did they make him Romanian I ask myself? Some Dracula Connection pherhaps, why the moronic name Carpathia? How many Appalachias, Alps, ect. do you know?Darth Wong wrote:I saw the movie at the video rental store, but I couldn't bring myself to spend three dollars to rent it, even for research. I had one, looked at the beginning, end, and then sold the book.

I had enough trouble reading some of the Chick Publications
While I obviously view the books from a Christian perspective, I'll have to agree that the quality of the books has gotten progressively worse. Some of the scenarios seem ridiculous to me. For one, while Satan is in reality incredibly intelligent, the latter books make his indwelt character seem almost idiotic in nature, and certainly needlessly reckless. It should be noted that the books are based on one group's perception of the end-times, which are a topic of continuous debate among the Christian community.Enforcer Talen wrote:I had 7 at one point. they get increasingly badly written, with the bad guy being more stupid then, say, a local chimpanzee, and the good guys happily quoting the bible as literally millions die by their god.
Makes sense. After all, it is based off the book of Revelation, where god tries to outdo his Old Testament self.DPDarkPrimus wrote:The books are alright, if you ignore most of the Christian propaganda stuff. There is a suprising amount of killing and violence in some of the later ones.

much faster then cities ^^
although, its a personal thought of mine that the blood thing is a metaphor, then actual massive dams being turned to blood. I found it odd how in the books, god would kill millions by dehydration and the like, and his followers survived nukes, but if they had the option of being a martyr with witnesses, they died by mere blades. all for the glory of god. . .
the author does well when just talking about relative human beings wandering the world, with frequent disasters, but he does incredibly badly when hes told to run around for 36 months and do character development. and nicholai is *so* stupid! Im 18 and I know better then to pull the stunts he did. he acts like the baghdad propaganda minister. no, there is no god. there is no plague. there is no famine.
doesnt he know anything about spin??? honestly. he could unconvert half a billion christians by saying, yes, there is a god. look at what hes doing. this many deaths by this plague, this many deaths by this plague - look what Ive done. Ive united the planet and brought peace.

in further amusing news, I went to fundy chat at rr, and made a habit of asking pointed questions. I was banned in 30 minutes.

I seem to be following the "read a bunch of them as they got worse and worse."
The Last two (haven't read the most recent one) were just unreadable. Jenkin's shouldn't try to write mIlitary stuff.

You know, a loooooong time ago I was a regular poster on the Left behind board. About the same time Harry Potter was hitting it big, I posted the Onion's Harry Potter Teaches kid Satanism story as a way to poke fun at the Christian Conservative's views on HP.
Imagine my surprise when people took it seriously!

I think that one incident is what veered me away from that crowd.

That said, critical thinking is not high on the Left Behind crowd's priority list.

These books could only have been written by an American. Virtually every other Christian church in the world subscribes to the "amillenialist" point of view. That is, the so called "milleneum" reign of Christ on earth is not literally a thousand years (it merely uses the word millenium to indicate a very long period of time), and is, in fact, represented by the rise of the Christian church. So technically, we are already living in the millenial reign of Christ.
American fundametalist churches, however, subscrible to the "premillenialist" view, that the millenial reign of Christ is literally a thousand year-long period, following the Great Tribulation, when Christ himself will come down to earth and rule in person, and at the end of this period will be the great Judgement Day, when everyone gets sent either to hell or to Heaven, depending on their faith. According to them, the millenium is yet to come. The premillenialist view is recent, and cropped up in America during the 19th century - an evangelical period in American culture.
Pretty much only American fundamentalists subscribe to this view. Other Christians throughout the world, and throughout history do not, and did not. This is largely because the fundies are "Biblical inerrantists", and view the Bible as literally true in its every word. Therefore the book of Revelations has to be interpreted by them as a prophecy of actual event to come. No other denominations do this. It's interesting that our home grown fundies subscribe to a view that even primitive medieval theologians rejected as too literal an interpretation of the Bible.

Possible so.
