relatives
any of you have relatives who, if they werent blood, youd avoid as much as possible?
I mean, I have this grandfather. love him and all, but he is extremely agravating at times. when we're watching tv, he either turns it off or comments on how bad it is throughout the entire thing. I do that myself to my sisters' shows, but I generally dont do it when Im a guest at another house. I scarcely need to mention how he watched 2 hrs of a movie I think utterly boring.
he complained a great deal bout how clean the house was, and how messy it had gotten by the time he was leaving. I cleaned it in an all nighter before he arrived, and yes, it did get messy - because we were entertaining guests instead of cleaning. ever notice how the house is a wreck after someone visits for a few days?
we go to church - as some of you know, Im an atheist, and *really* dont like going. but its for the family, once or so a year, so I go. he spends all his time complaining about the service, the music, the sermon, the architecture, the prayer, the whole bit. thats nice and all, but you dont see me going to his church and laughing at it.
we got to a dinner for graduation - my choice of resturant - and he apparently spent the entire evening saying how it was too fatty, badly cooked, the lighting was bad, etc, etc, etc. Im glad I was on the other side of the table from him. didnt hear it
he tells us hes sick. often and regularly. he doesnt seem to notice some of us are sick as well, but we're not complaing about it. he leaves the house early and comes late so he can get his sleep, but when I get half as much as he does from formal dinner parties with family *and* wild dance parties with friends, its cuz I have psych problems. or am hiding something.
and then I counter one of his complaints, he says he doesnt want to argue

Simply put the entire side is basically...well...they're close to white trash...and that's putting it lightly.
I don't mind them, but honestly the gap is too odd...that and half of them are alcoholics...with the other half being well adulturous is putting it lightly.
Don't hate them...but I'd rather not associtae with them...mostly because if we weren't family, we wouldn't give a damn if someone died.

My fathers side of the family is filled with a bunch of freaks... all of them. They all have these strange problems. One of them had a daughter that couldn't pass Kindergarten! Her mother couldn't read and rambled alot. I hated hanging around them. When i was younger and HAD to go to their house i would go outside in the back yards and just hang out till we left. Now that i'm older i make it a point not to see them

My dad's half-brother and his family. Never met 'em, and according to the stories, hope I never do.
My cousins by my mom's oldest sister. A lunatic and a junkie. They took advantage of their mother their entire adult lives, took every dime she had, and when she died, had her cremated without a funeral, without notice or explanation. That really crushed my mom and grandmother, not to mention the other surviving siblings. They are disowned by everybody.

Most of my father's side of the family belongs on Jerry Springer, but I don't have anyone I particularly try to avoid except for my brother. Without a doubt he's the most immediately annoying person I know. He's a trend-zombie sports-nut with severe anger management problems and very little emotional maturity and constantly sends me chain mail, hoaxes, bad jokes and pictures I've seen a thousand times.
My mother's side of the family is all old-world, first generation or second generation Italians. I don't avoid them, but sometimes I just kinda float away after a bit because they love to talk. About everything. At great length. And they'll explain things until you just want to say "OK, I got it already, you can stop talking now."
Ah well.

I don't really have anything against most of my family. I have that one uncle that's a huge racist that I wouldn't mind if I never saw again but that's about it. My brother has a bit of that "You can shut up now" about him but he's not that bad.

My mom. I don't know how she's smart enought to breath sometimes. The fact that she has a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from SUNY Buffalo makes it all the more baffling.
I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds. I shelve physics texts under "Fiction" in my personal library! I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning get up and shout "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware!

My brother. What an asshole. He thinks he's older and smarter than me or something, and there's a long list of gripes I have about him.
Other than that, my family is pretty normal. I have some religous people on my father's side, and perhaps hundreds (My grandfather was one of 12 kids, and my grandmother was one of 5) of relatives I've never seen on my mother's side.
