Iraqi Museums missing thousands of pieces? Not really.
CNN and The Guardian are reporting that the museums actually had much of their collection removed elsewhere before the war; looting damaged the museums but fewer than fifty pieces are currently missing.
Last I heard, about a week ago, was that a majority of the missing pieces were recovered and that about 50 were still missing.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong
But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

I posted something that said much the same weeks ago. The highly limited scale of the theft came out in less then two weeks, but most of the media seems to have ignored it.

Most of the lost items were found locked up in a vault very recently, I think that's why the item resurfaced perhaps.Sea Skimmer wrote:I posted something that said much the same weeks ago. Maybe, maybe not. It still makes all those who were screaming bloody murder a month or so ago when all this was in the news, look kind of dumb. I remember saying myself, that there was not much that we could have done durring the time, but if you just wait until shit calms down and use law enforcment style methods (read investigation rather than armed troops guarding the building while a war is going on) then alot if not most of this shit will be recovered. Seems that something of the sort happened.Simon H.Johansen wrote:I'm still sure that a lot of artifacts now recovered have been damaged in the meantime.

Remind me of a Doonsebury cartoon.
A gen Yer is asking an apraiser how much he can get for an ancient Sumerian stone tablet. The apraiser says, "about ten years."
