Medical term for Bacta fliud???
A question for anyone knowledgeable in medical terms.
What would be the scientific name for the Bacta fliud?

Is there any evidence that "bacta fluid" is not the scientific name for it? We're dealing with the science of a fictional universe, after all.
Perhaps simply "reconstitutive fluid" or the like. Without more exact specification of it works (feel free to inform me if the process was ever described in canon), it is only possible to name it in such general terms, which isn't of much use.
I think reconstitution is more in line with the effects of bacta rather than "true" regeneration; otherwise Luke could have grown a new hand with bacta. But in the end it's simply a technical term for a specific type of regeneration.

It reads the patients DNA and uses the data to create appropriate replacements and spare parts for cells and larger systems.Kuroneko wrote:

Probably safe to call it a growth medium.

Thank you. But please clarify: does it truly create new parts (beyond what would naturally occur anyway) or simply repair damaged ones? I don't think I ever saw any examples of the former, but then I'm not really a Star Wars guru. For the layman, it really doesn't matter, I suppose, but if one wishes to make a technically accurate medical name for the process, it could be an issue.Sea Skimmer wrote:It reads the patients DNA and uses the data to create appropriate replacements and spare parts for cells and larger systems.

In Tales of the Bounty Hunters, I believe bacta was used to regenerate Zuckuss' lungs inside his body. It only repairs damaged parts.
When Tenel Ka's arm was amputated with a lightsaber, they said they could have bacta-grafted it back on, but since there was nothing left, they had to use a prosthetic.

Ah, so 'reconstitution' would be the preferable medical jargon to 'regeneration'. Thanks.CaptainChewbacca wrote:In Tales of the Bounty Hunters, I believe bacta was used to regenerate Zuckuss' lungs inside his body. It only repairs damaged parts.

Actually, bacta is a cultured compound made in part by the biological processes of the Thyferran natives. Not quite sure what it is, but I think part of it is their saliva. Its a quasi-religious thing for them to make it.

Well, nowadays it is already possible to grow certain (simple) organs, there is still the hurdle of growing a working system, like an arm, for example.
Of course, with time that can be possible... like in the story I'm working on...
