I love this website! Especially the "letters" section:

COME ON GENE!!! TELL THE TRUTH I BET YOU ALSO REFERRED TO HIM AS FLAKE, ASSHOLE, LOSER, LAZY ASS etc. ...

QUESTION: IS IT TRUE, AS I HEARD DIRECTLY FROM ONE OF THE GUITAR TECHS ON YOUR REUNION TOUR THAT WHEN ACE WAS LATE FOR THE DETROIT REHEARSAL YOU TOLD HIM THAT YOU "WANTED TO TEAR HIM A NEW ASSHOLE, AND TOLD HIM DIRECTLY TO HIS FACE THAT HE WAS A F*UCKUP".?????

Response from Gene:
The second paragraph is true. The first paragraph is a figment of your imagination. So is, "C'mon...".

Well, it's not like Ace is THAT good a guitarist!

Hendrix, Santana, or McGlaughlin could have easily whipped Ace.

Hendrix and Mclaughlin have a unique guitar voice, just like Ace. Santana? Bullshit.

Insinuating that Santana doesn't have a distinctive sound? Now THAT is bullshit. Agreed, he does not usually utilize a showcase of chops to get the point across, however, in terms of sound, he easily bests Ace. Actually, I've found that sometimes Ace's sound really lacks presance, even to the point where it sounds weak. However, reguardless of whether or not it's a sixteenth note run or just two notes, Santana is there with the full feel of the music in his playing.

Your opinion, but again, I say bullshit. Santana hasn't grown as a guitar player whatsoever since the 60's. Then again, neither has Ace. But Ace is the better player, in my opinion.

You're kidding me? One of the traits that makes Ace stand out is making the guitar have a distinctive voice. Check out "Fractured Mirror" on his (KISS) solo CD, or the song "Love Gun".

Enjoy then.
