I see no problem. Torturing prisoners is the only reasonable use I see for Metallica's music anyway.

But wait! They were using MP3s!

Quickly RIAA and Metallica! Sue them!

It would be the only RIAA courtroom battle I'd be more than happy to watch.

Lars just needed a bit more attention, though I can agree with his statement that Metallica has kinda become the default for "loud crazy music" which is sometimes good and sometimes bad.

I was listening to NPR the other day, and they were interviewing the songwriter for Seseme Street and Barney about this.

He said at first he was upset, then realized listening " I love you" for 24 hrs would break anyone. Now he's flattered, and says if they want more songs give him a call.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

We've used loud music by well-known bands to force opponents to surrender in the past, right? Why should Lars be surprised that some of his music was used this time around?

Although, I think Norwegian death-metal might be more effective, but it wouldn't be so deliciously ironic.

At most, I'd get bored at "Enter Sandman" looped. Now, if they played Morbid Angel, Dimmu Borgir, or Old Man's Child, they'd be confessing left and right!

Metallica is the best they could do? Shit, I'm sure I could get the asshole kids with the garage band that plays in a garage right behind my grandmother's house to put together a demo tape. Put that shit on infinite loop and they'll either confess or gnaw their own jugular vein open.

I have an even better suggestion - If they played Crytopsy, Cannibal Corpse or Pig Destroyer then they'd break their interrogation confession records!

I take it you haven't heard Metallica's latest album? Because what you've described is exactly what their latest album sounds like.

I am surprised that he is complaining. He could so capitalize on this and say "Look Metallica is patriotic because our music was used in the war on Iraq, so be patriotic and buy our new album!" but he didn't. I bet Hetfield would though  .

Now that's inhumane.

I'm sure many countries would consider beyond redeemable for that level of torture. :P
