I love those sort of stories though, I love the myth of the Characharodon Megladon, did a presentation on ocean myth, the kraken, scylla and charybdis and all that, and did the Characharodon Megalodon as a final ghostly finish, whilst neglecting to mention that a big fuck off shark (30ft long), wouldnt be hanging round on the deep ocean, it would be in the shallow waters.

It was great, I extrapolated the size of the jaws from a standard great white shark tooth and generally attempted to leave that sort 'oh my god' feeling. Finishing with the rumours from the Polynesian fisherman about a ghostly white 30ft shark somewhere in the Pacific...

I'm a myth person really, greek myth, norse myth, its all interesting from where it comes from and what it details.
The Characharodon Megalodon myth thing was made into a book awhile ago. Meg, by Steve Alten (website). I found it pretty interesting...

Oh and i'm pretty sure the shark was bigger than 30 feet long... (linkedy link link)

Hmm, read the available chapter, might give it a whirl if its cheap, looked ok :). I forget the source I looked at to get the 30ft figure, but that source said there was some dissent so I might have just found one of those instead... :D

Yes, I've read Megs and enjoyed it a lot. Very well done, with just enough pausibility for the regular reader to say Wow... what if!

More on topic: I've always loved the idea that Nessie, Sasquatch/Yeti, and other crypto-beasties could actually be out there, quite alive and well.
