Saddest Movie Scene

Post by RogueIce »

I don't recall this being done, so I'll give it a shot.

What's the saddest movie scene you've, well, seen? It doesn't have to be from a movie that's supposed to be sad, just a scene in any movie you found particulary heart-wrenching, tear-jerking, etc...

This will probably change for me if this thread goes anywhere because I'm pretty lousy at pulling something up off the top of my head, but here goes:

The Rock - When the Navy SEALs get shot up. It's sad because it didn't have to happen that way. It was the asshole Captains really. The General didn't want it to happen, and he even was yelling "Cease fire!" the whole time. And it was hopeless for them, too. They were being fired upon from an elevated position, on both sides, so they had zero cover and zero chance to survive. That and the music playing in the background was very powerful and moving to me. And the irony of it, because General Hummel had started what he did to try and gain some kind of benefit and recognition to dead SpecOps troops, and what happens? Because of the stupidity of those two Captains, there are yet more dead operators, and their deaths will most likely not be recognized either.

So, what're your thoughts, or comments, or your own scenes?

The end of the The Bear...

So very very sad, especially for a kiddie.

And speaking of that kind of thing, are there any other "closet" Milo and Otis fans here?

The only thing that immeadietly springs to mind is 'Ring of Bright Water', watched it when I was about 10, was very big on otters, and it was a great film, until the otter had its head mashed in with a spade. Wasnt expecting that - I was, to put it mildly, very upset.

Edward Scissor hands. The part where he gets set up by the dumb jock and he's forced to run off back to the creepy house.

I saw most of Milo & Otis it once and really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure I understand the bit about The Bear but I can't say I recall the end exactly. I just remember the cub getting fed up with that cougar and standing his ground, meanwhile "bid daddy" was right behind him. :)

I was always rather impressed that Shatner managed to squeeze a tear out when he gets ordered to return to space dock, made it seem more realistic.

Old Yeller when they shoot Yeller

Bambi when Bambi's mom gets wacked to make "Bambi Burgers" Okay, that one has sort of lost it's impact for me.

Where the Red Fern Grows. The kid's two dogs save his ass from a mountain lion. One of the dogs is killed. The other one ends up dieing because because it misses the other dog so much. Then, when they are burried side-by-side a red fern grows between their graves.

On the human front. I liked the Mel Gibson's death in Braveheart and Russel Crowe's in Gladiator although I think Braveheart was a little sadder.

Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka): The combination of the scenes in which Seita returns to the makeshift home and finds his sister Setsuko dead from malnurishment and him placing her into the box and cremating her. I was pretty much in tears by the end of that movie....

I remember watching that for the first time in the theatre and jumping and yelling "YES!!! kill those dirty squids!" (I had just graduated from Marine Corps boot camp that very day) and I got a lot of weird looks too. I was a bit too gung ho and wanted the Marines to win, even if they were the badguys. I watch it nowadays and I want Hummel to kill those nasty ARMY captains instead of the SEALS.

I sort of understand. I watched Under Siege with a bunch of my shipmates and the part where the Operations Officer gets shot got a good laugh. Mainly because we all worked in ops on a ship and the Opso was a dick but still....

Pretty much all of Snoopy Come Home, right up until Snoopy sees the "No Dogs Allowed" sign by the apartment complex door and runs all the way back to Charlie Brown's house.

Alright, so it's not a sad ending, but since that's the saddest movie ever, it gets mentioned here.

End of STII. Kirk's speech, and Spock at the end being, if i am not mistaken, the first person other than Shatner to say the final frontier speech.
