So I finished reading "Vector Prime"....

Post by Peregrin Toker »

Unfortunately for me, my entry into the EU has been "Vector Prime." (mainly because it was the only EU book available at my library)

I can easily understand why the NJO is so reviled after reading it - it seemed rather formulaic compared to the movies and the Yuuzhan Vong biotechnology didn't make any sense at all - but it wasn't terrible. Rather mediocre.

But since I realized the folly of starting my forays into the Extended Universe with the NJO, I have decided that next time I'll put my hands on a SW novel, it'll be the Thrawn Trilogy. Even though I'll have to go to a store miles away in Copenhagen to buy it.

Any commiserations?? (sp?)

You should have started with Kevin J. Anderson. By comparison, all of the rest of the EU is good.

And SbS, an astonishingly strong entry into the NJO.

Heir to the Empire, bwahaha. Read it (slowly, as I was young) while on the car trip to Yellowstone.

I started with the Hand of Thrawn duology. Very, very good.

I learned all that one the Internet months before. I know everything that happens in the EU, even though I haven't touched most of the books.

Might have already known who they were by reading some of the "non-fiction" Official literature and other resources.

That's how I know about some of the stuff in the X-Wing series despite the fact that I've never read them. Same goes for some other parts of the EU, like the NJO.

First exposure to the EU novels was the Thrawn Trilogy back in the mid 90s.

The pre-SBS novels in the NJO aren't required reading if you want to read the story of the war against the Yuuzhan Vong??

(If there's one good thing about the Vong - it is that I really like saying "Yuuzhan Vong" with a faux Scottish accent)

You forgot "Glove Of Darth Vader." That makes anything seem good in comparison. I mean, come on - the Empire being re-united by a three-eyed freak?

Remember that three eyed freak was the Emperor's son

God that was such crap....

Okay yeah some prior NJO reading is needed for Star By Star...but if you know the major casts...you'll get by pretty well.

And honestly it's the best of NJO. Denning is another author I would reccomend for EU reading(apparently Tatoine's Ghost is very good as well)

I sincerely hope that the three-eyed freak wasn't the result of the Emperor's relationship with Ysanne Isard, for even she doesn't deserve that.

No, it was some alien woman. Anyway, that book was, unfortunately, my entry into the EU. As a result, I managed to stomach KJA.

Incidentally, I spotted some KJA novels on the shelf of my school's library. I might check'em out.

Yea, I get what u mean, I didn't read Truce At Bukura but I knew who the Sii-Ruuk were from one of the books all about characters, like Exar Kunn, read up on him in there.
Guess it wouldn't be that big of a mystery for long anyway cos as the books go along the usualy dropped references like "and Mara, who years before had wanted to kill the little farmboy was now married to him" ok yea I know thats not a direct quote but you get the idea.

You joking, right? The Vong are doomed. And one more thing:

I think I started with "Han Solo at Star's End", it was so long ago I really don't remember... I have read almost all of the EU books, just looking for 1 or 2 of the NJO books and some older things...
