That movie that came out about the Russian sub... the widowmaker or something like that... that really nailed me.

Otherwise, another vote for Spock's death.

I didn't cry or anything, but the ending of Das Boot was really, really unfair.

Ok, to me this is more like an experience than like watching a movie, but--

The scene in "Schindler's List" when Oskar Schindler is about to leave, and the Schindler Jews present him with that ring, and he starts going on about how he didn't do enough. About his car, his clothes, his ring would have gotten one more person, two more people--

That scene makes me choke out sobs. It just tears my heart right through my chest. Nothing in any other movie can ever equal the level of heartache that scene causes in me.

Like I've said before. Its the only time I've seen an entire university lecture theatre full of people crying.

Another one - Welcome to Sarajevo the scene where the reporters are told that their coverage of a massacre (I believe it was the breadline massacre - and this movie used the genuine footage, quite chilling) wouldn't even make headlines because Prince Charles and Princess Di had broken up officially. It was so amazingly sad to see what depths humanity has reached.

Good Call on Schindler's List, Zaia. Watching Liam Neeson start to break up just pulls the strings everytime for me.

I think I'll add Boromir's death from Fellowship to this list. After being clearly distinguished as the weakest willed member of the group and after trying to steal the ring from Frodo, Boromir finally reconnects with the lofty ideals he wants to believe in. He overcomes his despair, and fights a noble but futile battle in protection of the Hobbits. In the end he is able to redeem himself. There is something very touching about that heroism that he displayed at the end of his days, given the depths of despair and desperation he faced throughout the quest.

Ah yes, quite sad and inspiring at the same time. A very good movie IMO.

The only movie that ever made me cry was The Neverending Story, when Atreyu's horse died.

On a semi-related note, the only book that ever made me cry was Flowers for Algernon, at the end. I read it when I was in fifth grade.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

You know, the only book to ever really make me cry was the first time I read Iron Fist when you-know-who died (don't want to risk spoiling it). It's true. I was teary as hell after reading that.

In Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon when Li Mu Bai's dying words to Yu Shu Lien were:
"I've already wasted my whole life. I want to tell you with my last breath that I have always loved you. I would rather be a ghost, drifting by your side as a condemned soul, than enter heaven without you. Because of your love, I will never be a lonely spirit."
I admit, I almost lost it....got really teary eyed. Even now when I think about that scene, I get emotional. :?

Gotta make a second mention for Sleeping in the Light.

Plenty of tear jerkers mentioned already.

So I'll make a mention from a computer game.

The moment when Pvt. Ryan straightens and salutes Cpt. Miller's grave marker at the end of Saving Private Ryan. That always chokes me up.

I also get blubbery when Maximus falls at the end of Gladiator, and all of the men in attendance carry him out on their shoulders.

The tears also flow when Draco dies at the end of Dragonheart.

Also, Smitty quietly breathing his last breath in Black Hawk Down.

Grave of the Fireflies, basically the whole movie, is very hard to watch for me.

The Iron Giant, when the Giant is heading up toward the ballistic missile and the words "Superman" comes to his big metal lips and he hits the missile... that's very powerful.

Also Spirited Away is very powerful, though it isn't really sad, I get a little teary when I watch it anyway, especially when Chihiro and Haku are flying over the water in the spirit world and Chihiro remembers Haku's real name. There is a very profound message in that movie, and the idea that someone is controlled by their identity and remembering who you is the keep to freedom hits home very much for me.
