Aussies and 8 other nations - maybe more...

Being played on Thursday night, 8:30 pm on ABC here is a special "What the world thinks of the US".

Apparently it was/is being made in conjunction with 8 other countries and looks to be quite interesting.

Combine it with a poll that checks out what the world thought of the US ten, twenty, and thirty years ago, compare the results, and then I might find it interesting.

If we're lucky, we'll get, "Oh, Americans are wonderful people. Just as nice as you could ask, and my, they sure do like throwing that silly green money of theirs around. But their government--yeech, what a bunch of shits."

Actually, I can't say I'd totally disagree with this, though since I'm on the recieving end of my government's domestic fuckery rather than its foreign fuckery, I've probably got my own set of reasons as to why.

I'm sure they will take great pains to seprate what they think of Americans as opposed to our government (Which I understand, although I make no such distinctions when it comes to the French  ) Although quite frankly, once they stop taking our money then I'll be interested in what they have to say about the US Govt. It's like welfare recipients here bitching about the government, why don't you just STFU get a job and then you can join the rest of us bitching about the govt.

Or in reality - The Japanese Navy is in the Coral Sea! And America is still tossing up whether or not to abandon us to the Japanese in return for a lucrative trade agreement with the new Japanese Empire. Well shit, I guess we're going to have to do it ourselves - again...

No- Wait, I think that they're doing something - yes. Yes they are. They're appointing that moron who fucked up in the Phillipines and who has an ego bigger than Churchill's gut to our defense. I guess we should go an recapture New Guinea on our own then because there's no fucking way he'll ever get around to doing it.

I bought a book a few weeks ago called Why Do People Hate America by Ziauddin Sardar and Merryl Wyn Davies.
It pretty much puts the US down, saying that it infects the rest of the world with its pop-fast-food-would-you-like-fries-with-that-culture and how America exports its beliefs and value system as if it were Red Cross food aid...
I'd recommend it if you wanna really read into the subject. It's printed in the UK so I duno how easy it'll be to get hold of it in the US or other countries.

We wouldn't export it if the world didn't gobble it up.

Who says the rest of the world lives off American handouts? Some countries do, but certainly not all of them.

I think both sides have a point when it comes to this issue. Whether other countries will admit it or not, there is a genuine element of jealousy and spite in their dealings with America. On the other hand, whether Americans will admit it or not, there is a genuine element of callousness and arrogance in the way they regard other nations.

Why I hate America?

Simple. The US Administration, being the head of the most powerful naiton in the world, routinely makes decisions which directly and indirectly influence my quality of life, and horrors of all horrors, despite falsely advertising its self as the model democracy (::hint:: you're a republic), I HAVE NO SAY ON WHO GETS TO RUN THIS ADMINISTRATION!

That's why I hate America.

Although I am a realist, so I recognise that if it wasn't the US of A, then it would be someone else, and then I would have the same issue. So I count my blessings that my government is on good relations with it.

If you were a US citizen you could basically say the same thing. :?

About the only time I feel that I have a decent say in who represents "me" it is in local elections and perhaps a close congressional race.

Yet if you offered most of them the chance to live in America, they'd take it without hesitation... makes you wonder what they really hate, don't it?

That part really bugs me, if you hate that aspect of your culture then why are your people gobbling it up, why is a mjorioty of the world hooked on American goods and pop culture? Could it be that they like it? I KNOW the French hate the fact that their culturally superior citizens eat at McDonalds and watch American movies and English phrases creep into their language but what can you do? Your people LOVE it, so suck it down like a good little consumer. I don't bitch about the made in China labels.

I'm not bitching about those that do not, I am well aware that not every nation gets foreign aide form the US, its the ones that do, and the ones that get big chunks of it that piss me off when they start sounding off against the US, how about getting your hand out of my pocket before you start complaining? Israel for one should just STFU and be thankful we decide to keep them around for all the trouble they cause us and themselves but frankly Isarealis have rarely publicaly criticized the US its the Israelis I know personally that piss me off when they rant and rave about how self sufficient they are and I have to laugh bitterly in their faces.

I disagree with the perception of arrogance. This current administration certainly puts forth that perception but the Clinton administration was far from arrogant and the average American frankly could care less whats going on in the rest of the world and want to be left alone to buy their stuff and raise their kids.

Exactly. So then why does the rest of the world bitch on about how it's affecting them when after the've finished ranting to anyone who'll listen, they go out and grb a bucket of the Conels finest?
