Someone's watching too much Starship Troopers

The weapon I assume is the XM8 LAR (replacement for the M4A1) which is based off the 5.56mm part (sorry, I refuse to call it the 'kinetic energy version'- defense contractors are getting too fucking wordy) of the XM29 SABR.

"Uniforms will monitor soldiers' hearts, and helmets will be outfitted with video and other high-tech gear. The contract could be worth $3 billion."

Army awards contract for new high-tech uniform costing $30,000 each

Knowing military procurement, I suspect the end price tag will be well over that.

Cool picture though.

Somethings definitely wrong, can't put my finger on it ...

there's a Private Murphy's Law of Combat which dictates that the side with the fanciest uniform loses.

it looks more realistic than the "future warrior bullshit" that gets
shown repeatedly - looks like an idiot wearing ski goggles...

Am I wrong, or does that helmet look kind of like a motercycle helmet? If it is a fully enclosed helmet will it have air filters for B/C warfare? If it isn't then its going to be hell trying to get a mask on with that thing. Is that uniform chem/bio resistant? Looks HOT too.

OMG I just noticed even the BOOTS are cammoed? WTF? Black leather not good enough anymore eh?

Replacing the black leather makes sense. Black leather shows up bright and shiny at night if the enemy is using any kind of decent vision enhancements (something to do with UV reflection, I think). For that matter, few combat boots nowadays still use black leather. Black Goretex fake leather is more like it. The camo boots are probably a regular commercial product. Camo hunting boots are common enough.

The USMC had already switched over to light brown boots, Shiny black is shit for camouflage. I suspect that camo is simply a pull over or something that can be removed and replaced depending on the environment, the boot under it may be black.

As I recall the XM8 is a lot more like the G36K both weapons are based off of then the OICW's part is, much longer barrel among other things.

I think you mean reading SST rather then watching, those morons didn't appear to have first aid kits for the huge gaping wounds there bulky armor couldn't do shit to stop.

Knowing military procurement, I suspect the end price tag will be well over that.

The price of Land warrior declined from 90,000 per set to about 15,000 during development and may drop lower. While development has been delayed the price of it hasn't increased all that much. Though now the whole things being redone to reduce bulk since almost every part can now be build much smaller that’s to the massive tech leaps of the mid and late 90's.

No, you're thinking of the Sukholminov effect. The Barbarian invasions, the Crusades, the American revolution, the Civil war (to some extent)World War 1, World war 2, the several Arab-Israeli wars, the invasion of Afghanistan (by the Russians) were all lost by the side with the fancier uniforms.

Imho it reads like a kit for the Colonial Marines from the Aliens movie not the movie SST.

But the new helmet looks a lot like the one used in Starship Troopers, at least I think so. It's been a while since I saw the movie, though.

BTW, judging by the pic, it seems like the uniform uses some sort of digital camo pattern, right?

Yes it does, as do most of the US armed forces new patterns. They found it worked better to simply use a digital pattern to break out your outline, rather then trying to mimic foliage patterns.

Physical appearances its all movie MI, but the helmat-cam, suit reading and transmitting vital signs is Colonial Marine inspired tech.
