What's that bonus CD about?

I don't know that there's been any information released regarding the bonus CD, though I'm kind of interested in it myself.

The Unifying Force, by James Luceno, is the final book of The New Jedi Order series. The book will be released in hardcover this November by Del Rey Books. As a bonus, the book will include a CD-ROM of extra material: the entire text of the first book of The New Jedi Order, Vector Prime by R.A. What do you think is with the strip of fire on the Falcon? Obvious choice is that it's gonna be destroyed or damaged, but I dunno...

I think that the Falcon has just punched through a fireball and you are seeing some of the still-incandescent gas dispersing along its' ventral surface.

The title 'The Unifying Force' makes me wonder if Anakin is going to come back (having never died in the first place, hey it happens) with the secret of beating the Vong's force-invisibility. There follows a three-novel-long highly enjoyable exercise in vermin removal as Luke, Leia and the rest of the family rout the suddenly-vulnerable Vong.

I'm voting for Luke to find the DS0 prototype from the Jedi Academy trilogy somewhere out in the unknown regions (having been completed then abandoned by that Moff that opposed Pelaeon in 'Spectre of the Past'/'Vision of the Future'). He then proceeds to take the "Magic 8-Ball 'O Doom" on a long tour of Vong-held territory, much to the enjoyment of his allies.

I haven't read the novels where Jag Fel appears. Sometimes, the dearth of SW novels in Denmark disappoints me. But I'm not reading any of them currently, since I'm plowing my way through Clive Barker's "Weaveworld."

Given that Luke steadfastly refused to condone the use of a biological weapon that would have (they think) wiped out the Vong and all of their biotechnology in a matter of weeks, I seriously doubt this would happen.

No. He is related to Soontir Fel, and thus to Wedge Antilles. He grew up amongst the Chiss with his father, although he himself is human.

I just don't see the point of killing off a character only to bring him back. Just seems unethical to me.

In a way, I guess. Usually the point of killing and then ressurecting character is to allow other characters to develop without him for a little while, and then bring the old character back with enhanced powers and with new purpose. When Gandalf died in LotR, look at how Aragorn and Frodo stepped up to become the leaders of the party, developed on their own, and then how they responded to the restoration of Gandalf. In NJO's case, the purpose was lessened because the characters didn't really develop in Anakin's absence (with the possible exception of the relatively minor Tahiri), but in this case I think that resurrecting him properly would justify his death in the first place, if only by proving that the Jedi philosophy was largely correct and by finally connecting the YV to the Force and to life in general.

Your right though, if it's done PROPERLY then it would be quite cool, I was pretty surprised they killed him off as he seemed to be the central character.

I was, too, but it made some amount of sense within the context of Star by Star (which was, clearly, the standout of the series, thus far). It's kind of dangerous to put yourself in a position as a writer in which you HAVE to resurrect a character because it is difficult to pull of properly, but in this case I see little recourse.

I still think it would make sacrificing himself have alot less meaning. It would be like there would have been no point to it. Thats how I see it anyway.

I can kind of see where you're coming from, but ask yourself if Anakin knew what was going to happen to him. Of course he didn't. He chose to die for his friends, not knowing what was going to happen to him. His sacrifice is still just as poignant, but the fact that he was sent back by presumably more powerful beings (or the Force itself, in this case) makes his original death even more important, because now it's clear that he is destined to accomplish something. How do you think he would react to this happening to him? His death still managed to save his friends, but the fact that he was willing to sacrifice himself also may have played a part in the decision to return him to save others.

Like I said I havent seen Two Towers, so I can't comment. If they wanted to develop the other characters they could have do it without drasticly killing him off. Maybe it should have been Anakin that was captured and Jacen got away? Or he could have been comatosed (spelling?) by another YV virus. As you pointed out the characters haven't really developed in Anakins absence, this makes killing him off even more questionable.
I see bringing him back as a bit clique as well, the whole "and everyone (except Chewie) lived happily ever after. The end" kind of like (please dont think less of me for this reference!) Buffy, "I'm dead, oh no, wait, I'm not" (which has been done how many times!?) but, as said, if done properly, it could avoid that.
I think he did know what was coming, I THINK theres a line in SbS along the lines of "He could feel his cells bursting through the power of the Force" (a bit like Dorsk 81 in....Champions Of The Force when he sends the ISD's away....IIRC).
I don't know how to explain it to you, but I just feel that brining him back would make his sacrifice seem un-called for. Thats just the way I see it.

Jacen pressed on with his thoughts. " I was in contact with the world shaper. However, I began feeling the Vong and thier technology when I was..." Jacen gasped and all eyes were suddenly on him. Then to the center of the room. Leia and Han had just walked in with Tahiri still bandaged from an attack earlier that day. Leia and Tahiri paused, causing Han some alarm. In the middle of the room was a ghostly pale image of Jacen's brother. Anakin.

"Jacen. Vergere was right. There is something about you. About us and our relationship now. The Jedi have always concentrated on the living force. However, to us, the Vong have always seemed outside. That's because they have a different aspect in the force." Anakin continued as everyone in the room watched. Leia quieted Han with a quick mention. Anakin continued on. "The Jedi must learn to understand the dying force. In my sacrifice I have come to understand the force even more. The Yuzhaan Vong exist. However in the dying force, and not the living force. Quiet your mind Jacen. The galaxy must be balanced once again."


Yeah, sounds lame right. But it's the UNIFYING force. The Living and the Dying. Woo hoo. Suck it down Stravo. Tell that tale to your grandkids in a few years. boo yah!!!
