Quote about Blasters and Lasers I'm trying to find :(

Grrr...I'm debating this idiot trekkie who insists that, although TurboLasers are not lasers, blasters are. There's a quote from one of the Junior Jedi Knights books I've been looking for...it's been ages since I've read it, so my memory is a bit fuzzy and the book seems to have vanished from my collection...it's that one about Vader's Fortress, and one of the characters makes a comment about how the defense lasers aren't blasters...I don't want to waste anyone's time actually looking for it, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about/remembers it off the top of their head could you help out a fellow flamewarrior in need?

Who cares? Let them think they're lasers. Its not as if you're going to be firing an E-11 against a GCS.

Here are some of the quotes regarding the defenses. The last few are the relevant ones.

"Without warning, bright streaks of laser fire criss-crossed the courtyard" (42). [Editor's Note: Gotta admire the writing style in these books, though.]

Another bright streak burned across the air in front of Anakin. 'Blaster bolts!' Uldir yelped in his ear.

'Yeay, that's exactly what my brother Jacen always says,' Anakin muttered. 'Only this time, they're lasers, not blasters'" (42).

"'I think we set off some sort of intruder alarm.' Tahiri said. [Editor's note: Damn she's sharp.]

Before Anakin could say any more, Artoo-Detoo beeped once again and rolled into action. Laser blasts shot toward the little droid as he trundled into the huge entry area. He reflected the first and second bolts back in the direction of the lasers that had shot them. To Anakin's surprise, one of the deflected blasts struck the laser that had fired it. The laser exploded with muffled sizzles and thumps. ARtoo moved forward and caught the third bolt on his reflector as well" (45).

You should also use the quotes from EGWT that state that blasters and turbolasers operate on the same principle, etc. etc. etc. This is pretty unequivocal, though. Good hunting.

BTW, Ossus, where do you find quotes so quickly? I didn't think Wong had included EU information on his Database, and that's the only place I could think of....

Actually, I'm glad you asked. I think it's the first time I've ever had to refer to those books to look up something. To be honest, I've never read them and I bought them so I could refer to them if I needed to.

Here's another quote that can help you out, as well:

Count Dooku was a fencer, following an older fighting style, one more effective against lightsabers than against projectile weapons like blasters.

I've never seen laser beams called projectile weapons, so it's safe to say that blasters aren't lasers based on that quote.
