The new system seems ok...

Canonically Vader's minion in ANH was a commander. He was not the captain of the ship and had less tabs on his uniform than a captain.Son of the Suns wrote: Actually it was an attempt by the New Order to change the old ways and move the navy into a new era. Imperial Commanders are still referred to as Captain, but only out of tradition. ( at least I think, you might ask HDS on that one.)
The tie fighter game is lowest tier nonsense, Captain outranks Commander

Commander

A line captain.
As yellow increases with rank (Tarkin having the same insingnia as an ESB admiral, but with yellow) and the captain insignia contains more yellow rectangles than the commander, the canon dictates that captain outranks commander.

I personally prefer the old system, but the poll result so far seems pretty straightforward...
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

Not like you can really tell the difference with all these custom titles anyways ::grumble::
... but, no not really. After every few very whitful and amusing titles once in a while comes a far and long " default " title.... like when i see my name, and here i've gone from a respected jedi knight to just a piddily captain. No sir, i dont like it. While the new system implies depth and variety, the old system was simply sounded better.... in my own opinion of course >_>

what ever happened to the grand plan to combine postcount and time on the board into the ranking system?

Cool system -- recommend working in the seniority angle, but that may be a bridge too far...Son of the Suns wrote:*SNIP*
Edit: Strange to see Rear Admiral and three stars...
Damn! I like the old system.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

I rather like it, although the imperial command insignia instead of the stars would make it better... the only problem is, I'm going to be Sub-Lieutenant The Lumberjack. Just doesnt sound right. Maybe I should request a change (can you do that?), how does Sub Lieutenant El Moose Monstero sound? Probably too long though. Might take it to poll if it can be done...

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
I liked the old system better, more ranks just gives people more incentive to spam. Fuck, I can just smell the all the extra self-congratulatory posts whenever someone makes a new rank.

Say, do you want it to be a threesome with your wife? Or a foursome with your wife and sister-in-law? I'm up for either.

Like the military system you had in place (with some tweaks), but since I'm military, that goes without saying...Son of the Suns wrote:Rank system has been changed back, now that I look at it, it really did chop it up to much.
However I still would like to make a rank for 2000 and 3000 pc. After that most people have custom titles. Any suggestions for these or even an alternative system are welcome.
Would recommend the Moffs (Imperial Army rankings) for higher rankers.

God damn it, I liked the new system.

I remember in The X-Wing Novels the commander thing was addressed. The Bacta War i believe. The commander of the Vic Star was ranked as Captain yet Vorru noted he would be addressed as Captain however it didn't mention if it was a demotion or promotion to call him Captain..NecronLord wrote:Canonically Vader's minion in ANH was a commander. The commander of any vessel, regardless of actual rank, has the title of, "Captain." It wouldn't be surprising to see authors carry that over to the SW universe.Lord Pounder wrote:I remember in The X-Wing Novels the commander thing was addressed. The Bacta War i believe.
