Socks with sandals
Ok, i love to wear socks with sandals but my wife can't stand them and all previous girlfriends were the same way. Why? I would like to know whats so bad about wearing socks with sandals. Any of the women here care to explain. How many of you wear socks with sandals?
What's the point? If you're gonna wear sandals, why wear socks?
Unless it's cold or something, in which case I think it's kind of silly to wear sandals in the first place.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Did you explain to your friends the reason for wearing them? ~Jason
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Re: Socks with sandals
It sort of falls under the same rule as wearing black pants with brown shoes.theheap wrote:Ok, i love to wear socks with sandals but my wife can't stand them and all previous girlfriends were the same way. Why?
Well, first of all, I think there's one type of sandal that looks good with socks, and those are the soccer slip-ons by Adidas. The ones with the little nubbies that massage the soles of your feet? I wear those with little ankle socks sometimes. They look cute, so that's ok.I would like to know whats so bad about wearing socks with sandals. Any of the women here care to explain.
Ok, onto your question--most sandals are designed to be worn without socks, and consequently look kind of dumb with socks. Also, a lot of people who wear sandals wear said sandals with shorts. Shorts and socks don't look right together, unless the socks are combined with tennis shoes.
Tennis shoes + socks = implied activity, sportiness, etc, which goes along well with the shorts.
Sandals + shorts = more hanging out, lazy chillin'
Lazy chillin' is fine, but when you add socks into that equasion, it just looks BAD. Socks + shorts + no running shoes = unfashionable, which I guess is why your wife and ex-girlfriends weren't all about that look.
I guess the real reasons are
a) wearing socks with sandals goes against what it was designed for, so it looks weird.
b) most of the time, the sandals are brown and the socks are white (am I right?), and that usually falls under the brown/black rule. You don't really want to mix brown and white.
c) unless you're wearing the aforementioned Adidas slip-ons (which really are to slide on your feet after you've been on your feet all day running/working/etc., and need the cushioning of the socks to soften the massaging of the nubbies), IT JUST LOOKS BAAAAD.
Sorry.

Don't wear sandles. Sometimes wear flip-flops if I have to stay in a barracks though, especially when showering...theheap wrote:Ok, i love to wear socks with sandals but my wife can't stand them and all previous girlfriends were the same way. Hey, even us English (albeit half scottish) chaps draw the line at socks and sandals, it's very very unstylish IMHO. And this is coming from the man who makes a point of owning as many lurid yet semi-tasteful shirts as possible... ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Oh, only a good majority of the western world
, but you're right - if you're comfortable, then you wear what you damn well like. It's generally been my policy. Good for you. ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
EDIT: and probably the rest of the world who can afford to care about appearances too. but thats probably a SLAM issue.

If I'm wearing sandals, that’s all that’s on my feet. Its stupid to have socks on with them.

I don't know; if you're wearing your Tevas to go hiking or something, like what they're designed for (I think), and socks make them more comfortable, rock on. Wear your socks. They don't look good, but they're fuctional, so that's fine. When they're not fuctional and you pair the two together anyway, I guess people just think that's lame.
Some people think that the people they associate themselves reflect on them more than they do. Maybe some of these women think their sense of style is in question because they associate with someone who likes to wear socks with sandals. I don't personally feel that way, but I know some people do. *shrugs*

Re: Socks with sandals
I have those, and wearing them without socks is somewhat painful over time as the nubs dig into your skin.Zaia wrote:Well, first of all, I think there's one type of sandal that looks good with socks, and those are the soccer slip-ons by Adidas. I ocassionally wear socks with sandals. Mostly it's because I already have socks on and just throw on the sandals to go get the mail or something quick. In general I'm not much of a sandals person.
Now, in other people's eyes I'm sure I violate a lot of other fashion rules. I routinely wear dark colored socks with shorts. The thing is they are heavy hiking socks and I'm wearing hiking boots. I do fold/roll them down but there are a lot of people who don't seem to notice the difference between them and dress socks.
Back to the shocks with sandals thing. My feet also sweat and burn very easily so I understand about wanting to wear socks with sandals. All I can recomend is that you stick to the ankle socks and perhaps try to find an unobtrusive color that blends with your sandals.

I completely agree, which is why I wrote this:phongn wrote:I have those, and wearing them without socks is somewhat painful over time as the nubs dig into your skin.Zaia wrote:Well, first of all, I think there's one type of sandal that looks good with socks, and those are the soccer slip-ons by Adidas. I have them too, and I love them, but I only truly love them when I have soft and fairly thick ankle socks on with them. Otherwise they HURT instead of massage.

Hey, can someone please tell me the point of wearing sandals when you're gonna wear long pants? Or why people where the things when it's cold out and they have to put on big, thick socks?
