He made one obnoxious remark:

From what I read, he made a hell of a lot more insulting, trollish remarks than just the first one in the thread.

Regarding his other comments in that thread, when you get flammed, the idea is to flame back.

Yeah, but in this case there was no reason to start a flame war in the first place. If he had backed off then Dalton and Ein wouldn't have made a big deal about it, and the thread could have continued on. In this case, he clearly escalated the incident for no real reason with the original remark and then refusing to apologize to Rob. I see that as an effort simply to troll.

He made one jackass comment in that thread, then escalated it when he started counter-flaming when (surprise!) two Irish guys got pissed off at him. I don't know...I'm certainly not a member of the Ted Fan Club, but I'm reluctant to press the ban button for some reason. It might be because that other than his generic anti-American stuff, I've never been a personal recipient of his crap, so maybe I don't have much room to speak in this thread. Maybe I just don't like banning people.

I take it more as a straw that broke the camel's back effect. Ted has been a petulent child for most of his career here and he has offended just about everyone that can be offended. He continuasly takes positions that are rabidly opposed to others and attacks, he has purposefully attacked Kelly and some of the other females of this board, he has been Wall of Ignorance anti American in threads that sometimes are only tangentally involved with that stance but will barge in with shitty comments JUST to stir shit up, its not like he's advocating a strong position and we're responding to an unpopular opinion, he has intentionally posted falme bait and worse.

So, yes, in ISOLATION this latest infraction seems a little out of proportion but that little turd has been gievn so many chances that we have just had it with his Bullshit.

Something weird's going on here. Ted's insulted both halves of my racial identity, my status as an American, and several of my gay friends for their sexual preference, but I don't even seem to care too much. His insults don't seem to affect me in any way, shape or form.

On the other hand, Ted's been antagonizing a lot of the other board members who do care what he says. He blatantly stereotypes people, doesn't seem to be able to pass a Voight-Kampf Test if his life depends on it, and he does go out of his way to create conflict. He doesn't seem to contribute much to the board, and when told to back off he just forges on ahead, heedless of the consequences.

While I agree with Howedar when he pointed out that this is "small beans compared" with some of the things Ted's done in the past, behavioral problems should be dealt with in a cumulative manner, and we do need to determine where exactly to draw the line. Personally, the guy doesn't bother me too much, but he has been making things harder for other board members, and something needs to be done about that.

Thus, the question becomes what. I'm going to allow the rest of you to help determine my policy towards this. Start a poll asking whether or not Ted should be given another chance after his one-week cool-down period is over. We'll let the board in general police itself, and decide how to deal with this.

I would be disappointed if Ted got a perma-ban. I find him sort of humorous. Of course, I was also against RayCav's banning.

Due to the Anti-Irish threads and the Anti-Gay posts i'm quite pissed off. His only saving grace is that he's not a constant poster. However i'll mirror my comment i made in another thread. If he's not perm-banned i'm leaving the board.

When you cut down to the centre of this incident, he got banned for one troll post. That's pretty harsh.

Given the completely unwarranted anti-Irish attack, coupled with what others have said, I'd go for perm-banning him. I mean, he starts that little trolling thing, then makes a fat joke on Dalton, then comes back later to say it's hard for the Irish to even think?!

If that's "small beans" compared to what he's done in the past, I'd say he's long overdue for a perm-ban.

Sorry for those thinking that Ted is being mistreated or poked because of this...read the thread.

Aside from the Irish bullshit...he purposely eggs Dalton, he has had a record...and really hasn't demonstrated any real growth.

This was the straw that broke the camel's back...not the only thing he's done.

This involves more than just this one incident. This has been going on for longer than you've been here, hon. It may appear like we're out for blood here, but honestly, if you took a trip through all the shit Ted has been churning out since about Christmastime, you'd see how overly patient we've been with him.

I have a better idea than banning him. We can give him full troll status and make him the board's chewtoy, meaning that anyone is free to flame him at will. He can be known as the "SD.net's official Crack-smoking hat-fucker", and we can flame him for fun. In short, we treat him like we used to treat trolls, trying to drive them away.

Eventually, Ted will leave all by himself, and we won't have to ban him.
