Good God in Heaven.
I've always believed that Church groups and Faith based charities (I don't care if it's the Red Crescent) should be given more backing from the Feds, hence, I support Dubya's Faithbased intiatives.
Only one problem.
SCIENTOLOGY IS A FRICKING CULT/SCAM!
And Tommy boy wants the American taxpayers to give 'em money. Money that could go to real charities. Money that could go to the National Park Service. Money that could go to giving me a raise.
I'm at a lost. I know I'll flip out if The Feds are so stupid as to give them money. I know I've made comments about not making generalizations before, but Scientologists are asses, and evil, and should have their balls fed to starving dogs. Not very Christian of me to say, I know, but That's my opinion.

Let me guess: your faith is the belief that witless sods will give you money without asking what your exactly your religion is?kojikun wrote:I have a religion. Can I get some money???

I don't get why these fucking stupid ass religious charities are so eager for the federal money. Where federal money goes, federal rules inevitably follow.

They're all fucking cult/scams. Every one of them asks you to donate money, some or all of which will be spent toward the aggrandizement of a deity which is not known to exist by any rational or objective means whatsoever. What's the difference between selling a spot in Heaven to the hopeful parishiner and selling a bridge to the unwary buyer?Lonestar wrote:I've always believed that Church groups and Faith based charities (I don't care if it's the Red Crescent) should be given more backing from the Feds, hence, I support Dubya's Faithbased intiatives.

I could say the same thing about any "faith-based" charity. If you want to help people, why not just help them? Why reroute part of the money toward promoting a religion? And Tommy boy wants the American taxpayers to give 'em money. Money that could go to real charities. I can't speak for all religious charities, I can speak for how they do things at Pop's church.I could say the same thing about any "faith-based" charity. If you want to help people, why not just help them? Why reroute part of the money toward promoting a religion?

So? The existence of a fixed fee schedule instead of constant qualitative berating about giving more money to the church is technically a valid distinction, but one that has no bearing on what I said. I said that both "mainstream" religions and cults try to get you to part with your money without receiving anything tangible in return.Lonestar wrote:Because Scientologist outright tells you your spiritual wellbeing is in doubt if you don't pay $$$.
This is like saying that cyanide is chemically different from strychnine; technically it's true, but it also has little bearing on a statement like "both are poisonous".

Well he may just make the idiots pushing for faith based initiatives to do a double take, just for the dumb reputation of the Scientologists.
Fight on Tommy, you only help the athiests in the long run.

Actually many religious groups are viamently against any religios cause accepting any federal funds, because they know the second that they do the government will be able to dicate orders to that group. You will also find certain religious groups among those that are very much for separation of church and state. That's what gives them the right to keep people out of their assemblys that are self professed homosexuals etc. If they accepted federal funds they would have to comply with anti-discrimination laws.
I am totally against groups supported by or run by religious organizations accepting federal funds.

the catholic church historically required a 10% thithe as part of being a member of the church. Period. SO regular pay scheduals are part of most of christianity's history.
Likewise i would say that no faith based program (including red cross/crescent) should get a dime from the government, the government is a secular body with a strict mandade to remain completely secular and any reference to non-secular things or any support of non-secular things is an affront to the essensial separation of church and state, essential to defend every one's right to believe whatever they want and not to have someone else's beliefs encroach on their life.

Re: Tom Cruise seeking Federal backing for Scientologists.
I hope DW doesn't mind me answering a question directed at him, but yes. On base, these people are being paid to preform a service that civilian churches in the local towns would be happy to provide. In the field, they take up resources and do not contribute to the mission. Their job of 'spiritual guidance' can be performed by other religious officers and enlisted members. I say get rid of the chaplains and train more medics.Lonestar wrote::: shrugs :: Out of mild curiosity, are you opposed to (paid for with your taxdollars) Chaplains in the Armed Forces?
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.
Re: Tom Cruise seeking Federal backing for Scientologists.
To my knowledge, not all "faith-based" charities do this. Some are just normal charities run by religious people.Darth Wong wrote: They're all fucking cult/scams.
