Italian Parliment of skeletons

The Italian parliment has recently pushed forward and finished legislation that would insure the immunity from prosecution of the Prime Minister while in office, as well as four other top officials.
In other words, the PM could seize power and with the help of Germany attempt to invade Greece and later Ethiopia. And his government and judicial system would be tied to the wall.
Has the Cosa Nostra struck again or is it just normal corruption making a bold move?

This isn't that unusual. The U.S. President and members of Congress are immune from criminal prosecution while in office, though once they're out--either if their term expires or they're removed from office--they can be charged.

"Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law." -- U.S. Constitution, I.3.7.

Nowhere in the constitution does it say the President must first be impeached to be tried for a criminal offense, or that he must first finish his term. That is simply fiction.

As for Congressmen, you're simply wrong.

They [the Senators and Representatives] shall in all cases, except treason, felony, or breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses.

Bolded words are the parts I forgot. D'oh. This whole incedent was rather embarassing.

All legislators in Russia (including the State and local Dumas) are immune for prosecution. The result? Hordes of mobsters buying their way into the legislature so they can do whatever they want without fear of persecution. Not to mention that those people are stupid as hell and completely ignorant about politics.

It was probably inserted to keep legislators from being arrested for jaywalking or somesuch by their opponents on their way to an important vote.

It also means that no one could lift a finger if they walked to the senate naked.

Also on the part of political discussion, I wanted this to be a discussion of ethics in goverment in general, and I used this news story as a catalyst.

Berlusconi is trying to evade conviction with this law. He is the defendant
in a corruption trail AFAIK. 3-8 years in prison if he gets unlucky.
This is a bad thing because he is abusing his power. He could be guilty
of a lot of things. Some people think he might be involved in some
right wing terrorist acts in italy.

Berlusconi, our Prime Minister, when he decided to create his political party Forza Italia, had over 20 trials of corrution, concussion, false witness, tax evasion, etc. going against him.

He directly owns three of the six national-wide TV stations and his lackeys control two others of the remaining state-owned three, as well as IIRC 5 national diffusion papers, a bank and a shitload of other activities, in a blatant conflict of interests.

A good part of his ministers are his lawiers too and he has put in the Anti-Mafia division a lawier who is right now defending a dozen Mafia bosses.

He has passed laws depenalizing or commuting in a fee most of the crimes he was tried of and has used his network to demonize the judges and prosecutors involved in his trials, calling them communists, golpists, etc. One of his lakeys has even, on a national TV, said they shoulòd be shot.

And now he has passed the law meaning that the PM and four of other gov people can not be tried. Furthermore, he plans extending it to all the ministers and party secretaries.

And that's the contry who is next going to "lead" the EU. I'm going to cry.

I don't mean stupid people. I mean a guy who barely finished junior high school, and spent most of his life in prison. Think of Bubba. Would you want Bubba as your senator?
